Yes, that's already on our list. We've been to Conil before, and it's lovely. Just a bit worried about high winds, though. What's the weather normally like in Feb/March?

Weather in Feb / Mar this year was cold our as our Spanish neighbours said really cold. During the day it was 10C/13C and night was 0C/2C, but that is not the normal. Past few years average day time 20C and night 8C. Winds can be bad, but again few and far between. I can live with that, so we moved here....................

As John says last year was cold for the whole of Spain. Normally it's like an English summer . Yes you get some wind and rain but you know it won't last long! When the sun is out it's magic!

Still making mistakes! But they're not as costly.
The reason we stay in Benidorm for the winter IS the weather. We spent most of the winter of 2013 travelling through the Southern areas of Spain and yes, it's great when the only person you can speak to is your wife for four weeks because the Spanish is different to that spoken elsewhere and mostly everything is closed after 7 at night and there's not another person within 5 miles, but it was the weather that kept chasing us back to Benidorm every two or three weeks. It was cold and wet and windy and not very nice. So Beni isn't to everyone's taste, but the weather is better than almost anywhere else in Spain in the winter. It's why Beni is Beni. :)

A question for users of Spanish Aires - are you able to wind out awnings for shade on them? Or are they too tightly packed in.

you wont want shade its not that warm or anything just pleasant. and yes there are thousands down there . 4 years ago the maroc tourist board say 40.000campers hit maroc between dec and april . they just about all went through spain . plus spain was still full in many places .
possibly 100.000 campers go through med spain in winter . and most seem to come back the med way as well.
but inland your on your own .
its rainy .snowy .

To answer the Sun canopy question.....Aires are not camping they are parking.
Officially......you cannot wind out your awning, use bbq's or put out tables and chairs, you can use levellers under the wheels but not corner steadies.
Thats the official line........at most private aires these rules are neither known or imposed.
At Camperstopsierraespuna its even permitted to talk to the Munchies when they are visiting.
Camperstopsierraespuna was created by motorhomers for motorhomers, we have sufficient space between units, for both safety and privacy.

If you are down near Jerez go down to the coast. Large aire at Sanlucar de Barrameda. Very traditional spanish town (no highrise) with beach walks and cycle paths on your doorstep, and it's famous for its sherry!

A 'must visit' place

Good choice, new aire near San Jose is worth a visit, helpful owner, great Toilet and shower, and free wifi. Built like a campsite but charges aire prices.€10 per night all in.

Good choice.. we stayed in Roquetas Camping from Sep to end of Jan.. .. 'probably' the driest winter weather in Spain.. .. but by the end of Jan the weather was variable.. some wet days.. so we headed to Morocco

I am also watching this thread with interest.
I've booked on the Portsmouth to Santander ferry next week and will be driving to Lisbon for Christmas.
From there I will be heading south.
Totana sounds like my kind of place.

We have just returned from Spain.

Altea Sunny 20+ C during the say - 14 C at night.

Stopped at Arunjeuz near Madrid. All year round site, ten minutes walk through a park to the town centre. -1 C at night about 12-14C and sunny during the day.

2nd stop at Burgos -3.5C at night and when we left at 10.00am to go to the ferry at Santander it was a sunny -2 C.

As we entered the mountains - thick fog.

As someone has already mentioned the centre of Spain is quite high. A pass near Madrid is 1300mtrs and had snow on the adjacent mountains.

Yes my house is 20 mins away from Donana, away from it all in winter, further down on the beach, miles of........few people, weather normally very good.......but sometimes not so good, but you can say that almost any place.

Excellent full facility aire at Sanlucar de Barrameda, right on beach and an ideal location as base for visiting the beautiful surrounding area including Doñana National Park. In the book, All the Aires of Spain and Portugal.
