Water heater on or off (1 Viewer)

So we're currently away on our second trip in this new (to us) van. The water heater is gas only and wondered what people usually do......leave on whilst on site or only switch on when you need it?
Had electric heater before so when on ehu always left it on for convenience in the past.
What's best?

I find gas water heating so efficient I would turn it off till needed to save gas, but would no doubt forget to turn off, like you did we normally leave electric on all the time.
When off sites I try to turn off water heater when not in use as I am always worried about running out of gas. I have no idea how much gas is used on 'tick over'

Our heater is a Truma (No idea what model, sorry) and it heats its tank pretty quick (and bloody hot!).

Only use it in winter and my technique is:

Wake up bleary eyed. If able, clamber over Miss M and fall down ladder. Regain conciousness, flip water heater on. Boil kettle, make tea for both. Miss M drinks tea, has hot shower. I have slightly cooler shower (I suppose the Truma tank isn't so large).

what I'm trying to say is: It doesn't take long to heat it up so there's no or not much point leaving it on if you aren't using it.

As and when required. The water stays warm for quite a while so it helps to conserve gas.

We normally leave it off as it wastes gas otherwise. The exception is in cold conditions when we may leave it on low overnight to stop the automatic drop valve opening.

Turn on and off as required, it doesn't take long to heat up.
As above, in morning turn it on followed by the kettle.:thumb:
Most of these water heaters are only 10 ltrs so once used you need time for it tomre-heat.. Gas is quicker than electric...
