I received this one (although the attachment was GB12242013.zip), along with 2 others from apparently known sources, on Xmas eve

I use the government gateway on a monthly basis and know that .gov don't send file attachments with their receipts so I wasn't tempted to open any of them - however, the receipt I had been expecting for the submission made earlier in December never did arrive and neither has the receipt for the submission I made this month

All 3 were addressed to multiple recipients at o2.co.uk e-mail addresses

Looks like the scammers may be getting more sophisticated Kath.

One reason the message looked genuine at first glance is that it wasn't sent to multiple addresses - and my e-mail address is for my own domain, not an ISP-provided address.

It always pays to be vigilant.

In earlier days a scammer use to send me stuff with headers like...

"You are late with your self employed assessment form and have incurred a £100 fine."

They used to have ".gov" type address and claimed to be from "HM Revenue and Customs".

They didn't fool me!

I just deleted everything. :thumb:

Thanks Graham, I doubt I'd have fallen for it but I bet some would if they are not used to getting stuff regarding self-assessment returns.

As for spammers ... try putting an advert on Friday-ad and watch them lining up to tell you that unfortunately they can't come to see the item as they are away/it's a present .... etc, etc, etc so will pay you X amount for postage

... I'm trying to sell a laptop and have been blooming inundated!

Watch out theres another scam about

Hi,Just the the same with passports on line,if you dont check you pay £72.50 for these fake sites to send you the form that you get from the post office free, this does not pay for the passport only for them to tick the boxes and send you the form,so beware, regards H.::bigsmile:

Thanks for clarifying that Graham - since all those I had received were targetting o2 addresses, I had been wondering if it was something to do with o2's broadband business having been taken over (by Sky)... :winky:

I received 2 more yesterday - another from (supposedly) sage accounts and one from lloydstsb.co.uk (don't bank with them), both to o2 accounts (not mine this time) and both attaching .zip files

Do be careful everyone, these things are a flippin nuisance
