I don't think there is a float in the waste tank, more likely a probe system.
The probes normally conduct to earth via the liquid but when they get covered in crap they give a false reading..
Cleaning the tank usually resolves the issue but in my experience it doesn't take long for them to get dirty again.. frankly, they are a waste ( no pun intended ) of time..
If you need to fill the fresh then you can reasonably assume the grey tank is full
I had a similar problem on my Elddis Autoquest. As said earlier, learn to live without relying on them as they are notoriously unreliable on all models.
What I did one time was to drain the waste tank, fill one quarter full with warm soapy water (bio liquid washing stuff) and go for a drive on bumpy hilly roads. It seemed to work for me but then I was working in the Peak District at the time.
