I have copied this from a local page and thought it would be useful for anyone coming this way next weekend. My advice would be if travelling west dont turn off the M74/6 at Gretna continue along the motorway until you reach Lockerbie and then just head for Dumfries once you hit the first round about on the A75 just head west, this will add about 5 to 10 miles to your journey and virtually no time difference.
if your coming from the west heading east just go the opposite way, head for Lockerbie and join motorway.
