Had jumbo Friday, left for France sat morning. Down south of France. 3 times we've hooked up and 3 times the 5 amp external fuse has blown. Leaving fridge buggered. Converter said sometimes happens so try 7.5 amp. Anyone any ideas what's wrong. Now run out of fuses and is held together with wine bottle foil !!! Thanx :)

Its possible no fault exists at all, could just be the start up current slightly higher than anticipated and higher than the 5 amp can cope with. go with converters advice, he's better informed than anyone else
Happens all the time with compressors, motors and transformers etc
Ps I would avoid the wine bottle foil, it may not be the right vintage

A Woosh bang
Could well be as Geo said.. but if the 7.5A fuse blows I would pull the fridge out and check at the back .. there should be a 12 v connector block or perhaps a plug and socket.. look for any signs of dampness or water that may be causing a short.

Thanx scot. However, we put it onto 12v last night and no problem at all. Also, as soon as we change the fuse it stays on no problem. Will have to find french equivalent of Halfords !!!
