i was in my gas locker again yesterday to turn the gas back on after the Truma repair (dealers switched it off after working on it)

And again I notice a very slight gas smell inside the locker. It's been like that since I bought it and having had its Habitation checks done and X2 checks on the heater without anyone at the dealership saying it's not normal (forgot to ask)

Is it normal to have a slight smell of gas? It's well vented to the underside of the van and zero smell inside the home. Just keep thinking surely with all hoses tightened up it should be 100% odour free?

I have the Gasit rubber hoses and a whiff too. My electronic sniffer does not register any issues with any joints and I have had 2 German gas checks, these were done at the factory when the van was there for warranty and the German motorhome gas law is stringent, both times passing and certificates and stickers issued.

Same with ours with rubber pipes I think it may be time for a change to steel braided
Check all the holes in floor of locker are clear I had a bit of junk stored in there after removing it did make a difference

I have this in my van as well (no smell in the van, only in the locker). I've checked all the joints with a leak detection spray, but nothing shown. I have the rubber hoses but didn't realise that the smell could permeate through them. It's in for a hab check within the next month and that is on the list to be checked, but will watch this with interest

Cheers

Trevor

We have a gaslow system with st steel hoses, no smell at all. previously we had calor propane with rubber hoses but cannot recall a smell of gas then either. Best to obtain a leak detector spray and check all the connections to be on the safe side, youcould use soapy water with a clean brush as a quick preleak check until you get some leak detector spray

Yes this one leaks !
- Dont try this at home by looking for gas leaks with a naked flame! - its fire training in the Philippines - and I wont suggest sending kids into the gas locker with some matches to look for those leaks :cautious:

I've always had a slight smell of gas inside the locker, twin Gaslow system, outside filler, S/S hoses. Despite a couple of pressure tests, leak detectors and a sniffer thing I've never been able to trace a leak. However LPG does have quite a pungent smell and the small spurt of gas when the filler is disconnected could I suppose condense onto something.

I check the connections regularly and of course keep it well ventilated. Don't know what else to do so just keep an eye (or nose) on it.

Ours smells, and so have all of the vans we've rented, so I'll go with perfectly normal! :D

Hi
Do a check with soapy water mix, or leak detector fluid make sure it's done on flow i.e. Gas bottle turned on check all connections in gas locker , if no leaks wipe residue off connections and hose , you will always get a fishy/ slight garlicky smell from propane gas , especially from the gas hoses , it just lingers on , also make sure the gas locker vent area is clear .

Noticed it more previously in the gas locker of 2 coachbuilts (Calor bottles), less so in the locker of our current panel van conversion (1 Gas-it refillable, with external filler and 1 unused Calor bottle for back-up)??

All rubber connections.

I have 2 calor propane cylinders and a Truma switchover system, Truma crash shut off valves and rubber hoses. Faint smell of gas in the external locker but no leaks (professionally checked).
Must be normal. Not sure if it happens with Butane.

Never smelled it in ours. 2 x LPG with braided metal hoses.

What I have noticed though is when I first switch the gas on after being off for months, it has to pressurise the system so it gets out somehow over time. The pipes get full of Air too, I draw the gas to the hob and it won't light at first so it must be air.

Same, slight smell of gas in the locker but not the van. I have a hab check in a couple of weeks, so will see if that identifies anything.
