Just had these Varta batterys delivered yesterday, unwrapped the very substantial packaging, there was a sticker saying to remove both transit bungs, which I did. This got me thinking when I fit the batterys in my Pilote do I need to put breather tubes (plural) on both batterys ? as the only thing separating them from the habitation area is a plastic cover.

I believe the answer is Yes! If they have breather tubes they will be Lead Acid batteries. Check with your supplier to be certain.

I think you should only need a vent on one side. You can leave the other blank in place.

That's what I was wondering if it needed two vents for each battery. Does anyone else have Vartas and if so how many vents?

I have had them - brilliant battery's.
There where two vents but only one vent was used, the other was blanked off. They are a common vent to all the cells.
You use the end one that is most convenient to a tube through the floor and to the outside.
I fitted a second battery and simply fitted a tee piece into the original vent tube.

They have a vent at each end to accommodate fitting to different vehicles.
Some fitting situations may be very tight with one end inaccessible or in a corner etc.
Plug whichever isn't needed.

Talking about plugs anyone got a spare Banner battery screw plug. I've sort of damaged one of my cross indent when unscrewing it with a 20 pence piece. I picked up a couple of plugs today from a scrap yard but suspect they are not a universal fitting. (I'll find out for certain tomorrow)

I have two of them (LFD90). As others have said, one bung left in place on each, a vent tube fitted to the other ends. Very happy with the batteries.

Sorry for the delay in replying - just had time to look at the brochure and check the discharge versus battery life chart. For the LFD flooded range, Varta state >200 cycles at 50% DOD. The next step up is for the AGM range for which they state >400 cycles at 50% DOD.

Thank you for that. the Same as my Banner batteries. Both Varta and Banner have a good reputation and many Banner batteries now interdependently verified in accordance with the NCC verification scheme.

Made my decision to buy Varta LFD90S after reading some extremely good info from an ex MHF member who pointed out that Banner batteries are not suitable to be used in conjunction with my Electroblock unless there is easy access to keep topping up. My batteries are difficult to access so thought that Varta LFD was a better choice.
