Hi, has anyone used the A7 motorway between Valencia by-pass and just south of Alicante so as to avoid the tolls on the coastal AP7. Are there lots of long stretches going uphill to climb the mountains? Thanks.

The mountainous section of the A7 is relatively new and I have not used it but I have used this route several times with a fifth wheeler and towing a large caravan without problems, Google maps tells me that it is actually shorter than the A7, 107km rather than 121km. There is a long uphill section but not too bad, also a long downhill:)

A7 - A35 - N344 - A31 -A7 at Elche

We normally use the route recommended by @matamoros but we drove the A7 once just after it opened. I don't remember it being difficult but we were going towards Valencia.

Just did that stretch today. Hills are no problem, just got a little misty and chilly.

The trickiest bit is NOT missing the exit when the A7 separates from the A35...Follow signs to Alcoi...

We found it to be a pleasant change from the normal A7 coastal road..
