Hi

off to France on Wednesday, however the V5 hasn't arrived since the weight uprate (we were told two week five weeks ago) so off to get a temporary V5 tomorrow.

Question is, how do people in company cars manage? My wife doesn't have a V5 for her company car and drives in France.

Is it really that important to have the V5 in France? Do the police ask for it?

cheers Steve

Cant say for France
But dont get caught in Belgium without it.
Last year i had to pay €500 for a friend who forgot it.
He also had to get a copy faxed over before he could leave.

It is important. I've been pulled over 4 times in France. Admittedly, they are most interested in the driving licence, but they'd probably have spotted a missing V5.

Company car drivers unable to get the V5 need to get a VE103B from the lease company (or the company direct if it actually owns the vehicle).

The law in France is You must have all relevant documents for the vehicle and for person(s) who will be driving said vehicle. :thumb:

Unlike Reallyretired, we were stopped in our first year living in France. It was a random stop, which is allowed here, and I had to produce all documents, including my driving licence and the V5 (we still had our UK car at that time). These were all OK, and then, no doubt because it was just after lunchtime, out came the breathalyser. As I never drink and drive it was not a problem, but it emphasised to me that here you can never take a chance, especially with the alcohol level so much lower than in the UK.
