I am very worried at present.

He look at me expecting I can sort it as I always have but its his turn now to fight the pneumonia, if he can get through this we can manage the other symptoms hopefully.

I don't know what i would do without him.

I know what you're going through John.

All our best wishes for You, and Bruno's recovery.

Our resident cat that has adopted us is currently in the vets, after undergoing surgery yesterday.

It really comes home to us how much we love them being around.

All the Best BRUNO.

We don't know you, John, but as animal lovers we do feel for you and Bruno. One of the most loving and unconditional relationships you can ever have is with a dog and when your dog is ill it is torment for you.

We do hope that Bruno will soon be back to his old self and that you will be able to stop worrying.

Best regards
Rob & Val

He is still very poorly, up all night with him again (bit of kip in the lounge). his breathing is very bad. Suppose to be in for test tomorrow but not fit enough for it.

He is still here though and fighting.

Cant tell you guys how comforting it is to be able to share this problem as I feel so helpless and being on my own that much harder.

I wont let him suffer.

Thanks all

All of us who have met you and the big lad are with you in spirit John.

Those antibiotics should be kicking on now, but very often, they make you (and animals) feel worse before feeling better. Hoping you both have a better night.

Best wishes .... Robin, Hilary and James

He had a better night although had me up and down a lot, (so I am worn out literally sadly) part of my illness is i need sleep but cant settle when my boys liked this.

He was due in today to have a camera down the throat to see what the shadowing is on his way down to his tummy. I am not having any major surgery though whatever this show up.

I think he will be well enough tomorrow for this though, dread lifting him into the car though, hate grabbing the wrong bits and hurting him but he is 15 stone. Must know what the shadow is though so know what to do and expect in the future.

He is such a good boy ands lets me do anything with him, what a dog.:winky:

His eye speak for him and I know he wants to carry on at the moment (this bit sounds crazy i know)

I reckon you're wrong. I reckon he's saying "I've given you all I can mate, thanks for all the good times, it's time for you to manage on your own now and sort your own health out".

You could be right Brian, waiting to see results of his inspection tomorrow.

I know his days are numbered sadly.

John, sad though it is you know in your heart of hearts it is time to let him go. Just perform that one last service for the old boy. All this prodding and examining will not make him any younger, it will just make the rip off merchant of a vet richer. You know I am right mate do right by him.:Sad:

John,
I cannot see Bruno, I can only go by the heartbreaking information you are posting. I can judge from that though that it is time to stop those trips to vets. Call the vet out, have Bruno in your arms at home and give him permission to leave you. He does not fear whatever comes next, his loyalty to you is what is keeping him hanging on, though he is in discomfort, he is having to feel your pain which to such a faithful friend will be great. Give him your love and do the kindest thing you can and do it today. Jane

We can feel your pain, John, and our hearts go out to you and Bruno. Having to make such a terrible decision is the one of the most difficult things that an animal owner has to do. We know, we've been there more than once and it never gets any easier.

We hope that the following poem (author unknown but obviously someone who has been in the same position) will be of some comfort to you: -

The Last Battle
If it should be that I grow frail and weak
and pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done,
For this, the last battle, can't be won.

You will be sad I understand,
Don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer, so.
When the time comes, please let me go.

Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me ‘til the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
it is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Our thoughts and best wishes are with you.

john their is no softer way to say it
but as was said to me with buster
in july HE will let you know when he wants to go
i didnt believe it till he took three rests
to get to the end garden (27feet)15 minutes
and every step was pain for him
and he looked at me as if to say help me
i cant do it

its a very very hard step to take
but it is what we can do for them
to ease their pain after the loyalty
companionship love and fun they have shown to us
as i right this i wipe tears from my
eyes remembering
how i felt at the time what a roller coaster that was
buster having liver failure tuppence losing an eye
dil in labour three days grand daughter in an incubtor
for three days
and my old mate looking at me with big eyes saying help me

its a hard decision to make especially being your main company

best i can say is if it comes to it get away for a week
dont sit at home and dwell upon it
bill

sorry if i upset you

Hi John, you know what needs doing and so does your vet.If you did not have insurance I am sure he would have advised you better a few weeks ago.He does not need to go through a camera down into his insides just a simple injection and all his suffering and yours will end.You will miss him but he has been a good mate :thumb: remember the good times :thumb: All the best

I feel for you John i went through this last year but in the end it is a matter of doing the kindest thing.

You will make the right decision because he is your mate and the reason is because you have always done the best thing for him.

My thoughts are with you and Bruno

Take care

Hi John

I know how you are feeling at this time mate

We had a little fellow for 15 years, he was my pal & my best mate
He has been gone 5 years now and I still miss him, but the time came when I took him to the vet, the last of many visits.
The vet told me there was nothing more he could do for him. he was in pain and slowly fadeing away.
It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do when I walked away alone from the vets
I am not ashamed to admit I cried all the way home and more and have a tear in my eye now.
But I know that after all he gave us for 15 years he is no longer suffering.

Huge Hugs
Chrisboyo

John I am sitting here typing this with tears rolling down my face, I can only hope you feel the support and love everyone is sending to you and Bruno, perhaps its his way of telling you its time to get that van of yours on the road and get some sunshine in Europe, you know he will be with you in spirit, and he would not want you to worry while you are away.

Ditto to everything that Carol said. Can't stop thinking about you and Bruno and praying for a miracle.

Val

Sorry, Carol has edited her post since I replied. It's the above quote that I agree with and am still hoping that Bruno will recover.

Unlike people dogs rarly let you down, sometimes you hang on too long hopeing for better days that cannot come, but by easing Brunos burden you will lift your own. Only you will know when the time is right, but from your posts that time is near my friend, you know that is true.

Crikey! Tears from me too. Maybe John can't say it just now, but I have never felt such compassion from other people as when I look at these posts. I just wish you could feel us hugging you now John. We feel so much for you and wish you strength to get through this.

I know what your all saying but he poorly but not beat yet, I wont let him suffer. he has had a small wander round in front of the house and some dinner.

He's an old fella now but not finished yet. believe me I have made all the enquiries for when the time comes and what to do which feels like I have written him off already.
