I can reach the roof light in my van but my partner can't, actually she is in the process, self inflicted, of becoming my ex-partner so she soon won't even be able to reach the van

Yes, its to store the brown plastic opening 'rod' for your Heki roof light. You move the white catch across, and then hook to rod into the handle, that way you can push it up, or close it without having to stand on anything. The 'rod' is about a foot long, brown plastic, and tapered.

You might be able to reach it, and push it fully open, (which I doubt, as I am over 6', and can only lift ours to position 2), but you cant close it standing on the floor, without the 'shoe horn'.

It's for the shoe horn. We have ours, doubles the value of the vehicle.

Yep & the shoehorn has a hook in the top end for pulling the roof blind. Had one in our last Hymer, new one doesn't have one.

Definitely the holder for a long-handled shoe-horn. Which also doubles as an opener for the 40x40 Remis roof light to aid the vertically challenged.
When we got our Hymer the shoe-horn was fitted in the wardrobe but I have since moved it next to the habitation door, as that is where I put on my shoes!
