contact the police and find out if the wood in the carriageway had been reported to them.

If it had, you can claim off the highways agency for failing to clear a danger

also if that area is on cctv you can claim the same

Glad you are all OK Bill.

If you are fully comp it might be an idea to take the payout and run if the insurers write the van off.

Take a lot of comfort for managing to get to the hard shoulder and you are ok.

Vans can get fixed just a real bummer at this time of year when money will not be any easier to do it. Good luck :thumb:

When i was working for BR in the early 70's I was driving a CF bedford van back from Norwich, unbeknown to me the spare wheel dropped off its carrier and ended up in the road, a Hillman imp ran over it and smashed his sump to bits. First I knew of it was when the cops asked if any BR vans had lost their spare wheels, I checked mine and thought woops

Sorry to hear of the accident.

In 1986, towing a caravan, we were hit by a coach, on the M4, which spun us around and wrote off the car and caravan.

That was the bad news. The good news was that the Caravan Red Pennant Insurance provided us with a MH to continue our holiday.

The rest is HISTORY !:roflmto:

thats very sad to hear. is it a case of not being able to work outside? if so maybe a local farmer has a barn space you could borrow

if not maybe spend the weeks when you cant get at it finding parts for repair. that way it wont be so long till youre back on the road

post a list and i am sure that some of us will help. parts are about and should hopefully be cheap. it just takes a fair bit of searching for some bits. sometimes thinking outside the box is needed. such as the same engine was fitted to other vehicles

exhaust is pretty easy to weld in repair parts etc

dont feel beaten by this incident, youve repaired much worse from what youve said on here
