A question about tyres pressures yet again I did a search before I asked.

Hello another question about tyres Im off to France :Smile:next week and I have Continental Vanco Camper tyres fitted 215/75 R 16 C .
I got my van weight when fully loaded with my scooter and bikes on the back at a weighbridge and my Axle loads are front 1380 kgs and 1940 kgs on the rear and a total weight of 3320
I emailed Continental last week to ask their recommendations but they have not replied.
The email I found on google was info@entyrety.co.uk but I have not had any response.
Looking at the information at the PDF I downloaded from fun the reccomened psi pressures if I have read it right are front axle 1380 kgs psi should be 40 and 1940 kgs on the rear should be psi of 57.
This seems very low, am I losing the plot again.
Thanks for any advise.
John

I think it should say on the sidewalls of your Vancos max pressure which I think could be 65psi ,It should also say your pressures in your handbook .:thumb:

If it helps I have Vanco 215/70R 15CP on my Starspirit and the pressures Continental gave me a year or more ago for my weights were as follows:

Front load 1380kg - 44psi
Rear load 1880kg - 72 psi

After a bit of trial and error I've settled on 60 and 70 in mine which gives me the best ride, I've also got AS air suspension which helps on our less than perfect roads.

Try here for their help section, they answered me within a couple of days.

I spoke to them that week and have a copy of the pdf if anyone wants a copy. I tried uploading the file here, but it is too big. If you want a copy drop me a PM with your email address.

John there should be another number on you tyre which is needed to quote the correct pressure. It is a 3 digit service description/ load index number (e.g. 116R). If you quote this I can give you the pressures recommended.

You can also ring them direct with the details and they will tell you over the phone.

The quoted pressure after the tyre size data is irrelevant (as mentioned) for the UK market. The max pressures are based of the tyre size and axel load.

OK... so what is the difference between a US Tyre and a UK tyre? given that a lot of make of tyres come from the USA ... for that matter what about tyres from the far east or europe...

I thought psi was the same the world over  OK US gallon as different from the UK gallon.. but I doubt that Chrysler, Dodge, Lincoln ship cars to the UK with no tyres on them.

i always thought that the max pressure rating on the tyre was written in a format similar to "Max Cold Pressure 65psi at 2450kg" or something like that.

also if it is of no relevance why put it on the tyre in the first place

there is no difference to tyres US / UK its the legislation regarding tyres that drives that marking on the tyre wall for US market. nothing else.:thumb:

I know that, as you do.. I was making an obvious remark... lbs are the same in the UK or USA... lots of tyres in the UK and USA markings... as half of the RV tyres are imported in to the UK they have the marks.. like on Kumo's ... they all have the same lbs.. but the post was worded a little ambiguously so.. I just made the remark... funny, took so long before someone saw it and posted:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Max tire pressure = Maximum Inflation Pressure: The maximum pressure that a tyre can be inflated to.

This does not mean the pressure it should be inflated to....

Beat me too it. :roflmto:

I had just worked this all out as well.

Recommendation according to the Continental data sheet:

Front (1380 kgs) - 3bar (~44 PSI) (based on load of 1600KG which is the lowest shown in the data sheet for your size of tyre)
Rear single axel (1940 kgs) - between 3.75bar (~54PSI) for 1910KG and 4 bar (~58PSI) for 2010KG

Good that you have it from the horses mouth. :thumb:

Again if anyone wants a copy of the data sheet, let me know your email addy. (Jim if you read this I tried to upload, but the PDF file is nearly 3MB any ideas?)
