We are talking new tec specialist tyres here Mr Graham not run o the mill van/commercials:Doh:
Be interesting to see what they say re running pressures
A tyre is a tyre is a tyre -------NOT

Well, that's become clear  The tyres on our van when we got it were the originals from when it left the Explorer factory at Consett and that's why I had then replaced with the same.

I'll post the reply from Goodyear when I get it.

Message to and replies from Goodyear

Message I sent to Goodyear:
We own an Elddis Autoquest 100 motorhome, first registered in March 2004 and built on a Peugeot Boxer base (2.0 litre engine). When we
bought the motorhome it had Goodyear Cargo G26 Van 195/70R15 Tyres fitted. Both the datasheet which I downloaded from the Explorer web site at the time (see attachment) and the motorhome handbook issued by Explorer Group specify pressures of 44 psi for both front and rear tyres and we have always run at those pressures even though the
standard Peugeot sticker on the door pillar gives different values.

I had the tyres replaced a little over a year ago by Kwik Fit Mobile and chose Goodyear Cargo G26 Van 195/70R15 Tyres on the basis that it was wise to stay with the vehicle manufacturer's original choice. The fitter was happy to go by the Explorer data sheet for inflation pressures.

When we had the vehicle weighed the Gross was 2740 Kg, Front axle was 1320 Kg and Rear axle was 1400 Kg

However, in the last couple of days the subject of pressures has been raised on a motorhome forum and I am somewhat confused as a result.

Another owner of a similar motorhome to ours (with similar weights Front: 1320 Kg, Rear: 1440 Kg) has contacted Explorer Group and was told "we would always say to go by the handbook". He has also been in touch with the manufacturer of his tyres (Bridgestone) who have responded "For the axle weights stated, the optimal pressure would be 57psi (based on 1400kg front and 1500kg rear) but other people responding to the thread advise that the pressures should be higher."

Could you please advise of your opinion of optimum tyre pressure for safety and smooth ride for our motorhome. Also, if different from the 44 psi advised by Explorer Group, would it be possible to explain (briefly) why.

Goodyear responded that they manufacture the G26 in this size with different load indices, and asked me to confirm which option I have fitted, 195/70R15C 100/98R CARGO G26 or
195/70R15C 104/102R CARGO G26. I checked and they are the 104/102R option.

Goodyear then sent the following response:
Thanks for the information.

With the load index being used then the pressure quoted in writing by the vehicle manufacturer will carry the weight of the vehicle.

Pressures for tyres are advised by the vehicle manufacturer rather than the tyre manufacturer.

Many vehicle designers will come up with totally different pressures to suit their vehicles and their desired handling characteristic.

There will have been a great deal of testing to come up to these conclusions. The pressures in tyres act as part of the vehicles suspension design therefore contributing to handling, stability, ride etc.

Contrary to popular belief pressures are not only advised based on the weight of the vehicle.

So, I think we will continue with 44 psi as advised by Explorer and the pressure we have been running with since June 2006.

works for me. Thanks Graham - that saved me 20p (or even 40p if I could not run round the van quick enough..)
