not long enough
I recently posted a question about when to change tyres due to age, resolved that and ordered new for fitting next week. Then realised I had overlooked my spare, still absolutely as new, never been off the frame in MH garage, only sees daylight for a minutes a year.

Does that still come under the age rule for changing, like the rest of mine it is now 7 years old this month, should I have ordered 7 tyres?

Can't remember ;)
Hi David if I was you I would treat it as exactly what it is a spare :thumb: If you have a punture put it on but then get your new tyre fixed/renewed and put it back onto your van turning your spare back to the spare ::bigsmile:--Got to be better than a can of spray foam :thumb:

Wot Terry said....

Terry said it first, but it's what I would have said.

i would keep all the old tyres then take them to morocco .get good money for them there .
tyres are expensive there .
mind i would keep running them till they blow or wear out .

But what about the age issue

I agree with all above and think that will be what I do, but why does the age issue not seem to matter for the spare, albeit if only for little use, that still might include a few motorway miles

VWAlan I already know your answer!! ::bigsmile:

I thought our spare was okay until I took it out. The underside was pristine but the side that had been against the van floor was all cracked. I suspect the chemicals in the undersell had affected it.

i,m never at high speed . i usually wear mine out . not keen on having a m,home and not using it . do about 10 thou a year so wearing out tyres arent a problem . on my third set on the one i have now . only had it 13 yrs .
all i know is get a puncture on the move with almost any tyre on the trailer its usually un usable . might be lucky if its a slow one . but you dont feel it on the road or the trailer drop.
i think its a shame many dont use their m,homes more ,its a big world out there .

maybe you would as you visit marocco regularly.

income from old tyres maybe £50 each tops

return ferry to spain/france, fuel for trip, return ferry to africa......many hundreds of £'s

pick up the odd good one at a local tyreshop . worth a bottle of wine . well carton .
old merc parts were the best . heads cranks etc . they loved them .
all a bit changed now . they arent so wanting for old merc bits .
not as many old vehicles over there now . loads new ones .
not far behind us now . every year there is like 5 here .
