I had two rear nearside tryes blow out on me on the motorway. I called the RAC under the C&CC Arrivals scheme.

They came and fitted my spare on to one wheel and then escorted me to the tyre depot where I had two new tyres fitted.

The RAC woudnt leave until the tyres were fitted and I was safely on my way.

Cars and lorries are ok.. no biggy.. A rear on a bike is not much to worry about either.
The one I hate ( and I have had two dagnabit ! ) are big punctures in front tyres on bikes at speed.. Had one let go at 140+ ( indicated ) and scared the beejeezers out of me :Eeek: !!

Good one Bev, if it happens it'll take some nerve to boot it :Eeek:

I know, its the opposite of what you'd think you'd have to do.
But when you watch the clip , its so obvious.

Cheers...

Luckily my last one was on a rear dual axle....Stripped the tyre tread which caused the most problem....I'd checked all pressures too...:Doh:RAC said it was an old carcase....Which brings us back to Tyre age and relative low yearly mileages..Do I need to invest in tyre covers having just bought 2 new tyres based on this?

Very informative.:thumb:

I'd dread it if it were a front that went.

A blow out is scary enough in a car, but a big heavy MH ... :Eeek:
Id also like to know if Tyre covers make a difference to your Tyre longevity American Dream .
I dont know how old the tyres are on our MH we've had it 6 months . They are Michelin camping tyres and have a good tread on them. The MH has done 16k and its a 2006 . We use the MH most weekends but it is stood through out the week. If covering the tyres up would make a difference , we would.

No it is not.

That is a huge yank barge not a relatively light FWD European.

Do not panic brake - correct for just about all problem situations.

Use the steering wheel - correct for all problem situations.

Foot off - use steering to keep in a safe direction - then gently bring in the brakes keeping easing the steering as needed as the brakes bite.

Once saved a car with front wheel rapid deflation, on the M6 and I was the passenger, driver had no idea what was happening.

Best practice you can have is get out in the snow.
