Great looker, would love to know a bit about his quirks.

He is a big girl !
We have always had Ridgebacks they are great family dogs they need 60+ minutes of walking min a day.
they like to be with you all the time, and they like to sit on you when watching the box.
We have a shop and he sits behind the counter some days and some people travel just to see him!

She is a 7 year old GSD/Border Collie cross.

Got her at 8 weeks from local Dogs Trust Centre. She shares our lives in Wales and France and knows all the stops en route.

We have a black miniature poodle (4 years old) called Boo. We also had a labradoodle who sadly died on December 30th (Hamish). Hamish was a fantastic dog and a constant companion to Boo who grieved dreadfully when he died. At first I said 'never again' but of course it didn't last and two weeks ago we got a puppy cockapoo (Poppy).

Definitely Border collie

Hi Mastercamper, Our current dog is "Poppy" a lovely Border Collie, which of course, is our favourite breed.
"Holly" another border collie of ours, died 8 years ago and after a few days of saying we'll not get another dog cos of the pain in losing Holly, we got Poppy she was 8 weeks old and a farm dog.
However, we lost a rescue greyhound called Charlie last year, he was a wonderful dog, bags of personality and a great friend and companion. He was 9 when we took him on and sadly we only had 2 years with him:cry:, 2 good years for us and charlie. Charlie loved the motorhome as much as we do.
So, we love and favour border collie's but a greyhound comes a close second.::bigsmile:
Best wishes to one and all from Cornwall

I thought I'd put up a picture of our boss, Archie the Miniature Schnauzer.
He's in his usual pose of exercising on a sofa.

Perhaps we could expand this thread by describing how we named our dogs.

My dog, Nix, was already named when I got her as an older puppy. It's short for Phoenix. I thought of names that sounded like Nix - Pixie, Dixie, Trixie - and decided to stay with Nix. :winky: It's not a name I would have chosen but I've grown used to it.

Nixe with an added 'e' is a water sprite in German mythology. That doesn't suit her either as she doesn't like water! ::bigsmile:

BTW, we've heard all the jokes about 'no Nix' and 'frilly Nix'.

Our Dave

We have a 3 year old Whippet called Dave. Got him as a 10 week old pup not long after I retired & since then he's been my constant companion(until Joanne gets home from work then he swiftly changes to her lap, fickle little sod).
We spent 11 years looking after 4 retired greyhounds, lovely gentle creatures. After the last one passed away we said we could'nt face such heartache again so we were dog less for a year.
It just did'nt feel like home though, so we thought a whippet would be simply a small scale greyhound, much more practical.
Wrong, he's bonkers! So affectionate though. We've really fallen for this one. Probably because we had him as a puppy.

50 years campervanning
When I posted the original thread a few days ago, it was due to idle curiosity on my part.
I am completely struck by what a nice lot of people you really are, and What a varied and lovely lot of dogs are enjoying motorhoming / campervanning.
Not only do our dogs provide a degree of security, but display unbounded devotion and ask for little in return.
It has been said that if you are overweight, your dog is not getting enough exercise!..............I believe from the replies and judging by the pictures here that non of us is too overweight!
I used to say that the more people I meet, the more I love my dogs, but the dog /people combinations on this forum are making me realise that people are not all bad either. God Bless all you dog rescuers and dog companions.:thumb:
May all the detractors come to their senses.

Cass, a Cyprus Poodle ( any fluffy dog in Cyprus is a Cyprus poodle!) Dumped on a beach with 2 siblings aged approx 6 weeks.
Holly, possibly has Belgian shepherd in her. I think she was maybe a hunting or herding dog in Cyprus, was so badly beaten a back leg was broken and she was then abandoned. Leg healed naturally, so shorter than other 3.

Holly wont steal food or empty a bin despite being found in starvation condition (vet reckoned she might have lived another week)
Cass is the opposite, so naughty.
But would hate to be without them.

We currently have have 5 border collies, was 6 upto a couple of months ago. It's such a sad time when you lose one.
They are all rescue dogs as SHMBO volunteers at a local rescue centre and we seem to end up with the ones that are difficult to rehome.

The first picture is Bob we had him aged 12 he was suffering a bad skin complaint, tumors around his back end, a heart murmer and he still had the gun pellets in him from when he was shot. I would love to have a "chat" with the person that did this to him. The vet said he only had a couple of months to live so we adopted him and we had him 2 years. A lovely Dog.

The second picture is conner, 1 of 40 collies siezed from a breeder, he was living in a old caravan on the sink as that was the only space left. He was never socialised and is very difficult when other people and dogs are around him. I wont bleat on but if all owners where like the folks on here we wouldnt have so many full rescue centres.:thumb:

Recently there have been several posts referring to dogs. As a dog owner myself, I was just wondering what breeds fellow Funsters favour as the ideal canine companion. I have 2 Border Collies...one black and white and one white and black.

IMHO the best dogs around...........:thumb::thumb:

You couldn't resist could you :Doh:

Please don't drag this thread down in to the slagging match that the others morphed into. Before you start on about being entitled to your opinion - yes you are but do you have to force it down everyone's throat over and over again?
