Personally, and what we've done, some currrent flat screens in you local Comet, Dixons etc and local supermarkets are actually 12 volt via a 'brick'. You can get MH specific if you like spending money also.
If you look at the backs of tellys, find ones with the brick and follow the lead to the telly you'll find the plug and it will have the voltage stated, as said usually 12volt.
Some of us run them direct from the 'vans 12volt but some, like me, use a 12 volt stabaliser, ours is an amperor one, just to be on the safe side.

Going 12 volts logical as you can watch without hookup.

We have a really nice Kenmark, I think from Comet, chap on here recommended, 19", freeview,DVD etc, excellent viewing angles and dead tidy.

Theres always a lot of debate about tellys.

My favourite pastime on campsites is to watch folk wandering around a field carrying a telly arial, trying to find a signal. Once he has one he has to stand outside in the rain while SWMBO watches Corrie :ROFLMAO:.

I have a sat system installed, its a Camos Flat Sat Plus. I think its the business. I have a Black Box Decoder and a Meous 20" Flat Screen with intergral DVD etc.

The telly you can buy on the web at www.wedodigital.com. The sat dish and decoder came from Road Pro.

Dave Newell who's name is on the top right of you screen is also a Camos approved Dealer. You get what you pay for in the world of telly's.

Jim

Edit: The telly and decoder are 12V but do have 230V supply adaptors.

most of what has been said above is good advice.

you need to ask yourself do you have hook up at all times.?

if you do no need for 12 volt.

if you don't then it a 12 volt you need..

Changed mine not long ago for a 21" wide screen that has an external mains supply to 12 V , which means you can run it through that or if on battery only via cigar lighter , for 12v option I got a regulated 12v power supply lead for led tv's works great.

Got the tv from Link Removed Link Removed good people to deal with for anything.

There are no more 12v/240v TV's about now, they are all 240v apart from specialist makes like Avtex.

I own a TV wholesaler down in Poole and they cannot get any and they do well known makes.

Point being look to see if it works via an external power supply and what does the power supply output. In my case and many others they give out 12v DC therefore you can use them on mains with their power supply or via 12v from your bus, but please make sure you use a regulated 12v lead .

One thing with 'domestic' type TVs, ie not MH specific, they are very unlikely to say they are 12volt. They will state 230/240 and you'll need to actually physically look at them to find out.

Errrr, that's what he just said, DOH!!!!

Purchased our 19" Technika from Tesco for £120. It's both 230v and 12 v with DVD Player.
Sat here in Spain currently listening to Radio 2 via my small Roadpr dish and watched young Murrey win the tennis in Melbourne this morning:thumb:

Currys do a couple of 240/12v tv with dvd player,

Its the only time I have purchased a "we will replace ir free, if it dont work" for a 3 year period. Odd things happen in a motorhome and it might just break before three years.

Another small point. The newer model propper 12v tvs use around 19w where a lot of the cheapo ones use over 40w.

One simple word COST! daft is it not, plus of course how many people want a flat screen at home working of 12v.

They are not being made anymore.

Peter

Hi Peter
Ive just had a look on the web and the meos 12V/230V telly's with DVD etc are still on sale so somebody's still making them.

If you wish to use a supermarket TV, you will have to invest in a voltage stabilser to run them without damage. It takes the spikes out of the supply, which can blow the set allowing to run from the leisure battery or generator. You can run it of mains hook up ok though!

TV's

Going slightly off topic, Anyone who has brought a so called HD Ready/freeview TV expecting to receive, via TV Aerial, any Freeview HD television channels when then start broadcasting for the Football World Cup later this year, Bad news!!, NONE of the TV,s sold in in the shops to date are capable of displaying in Freeview HD mode without a further set top box costing at least £170. Sky and Virgin broadcasts will not be affected. (Dish).
cheers Wall-E.

The HD ready sets are just that - HD ready......ready for when they start sending H/D signal as standard...whenever that will be! Until then, you need the set top box/sky HD box etc!

They seem to dangle technology like a carrot! lol!
