On and off for many years.
Our hab check indicated that the water heater wasn't working (space heating is diesel) and as we have never used it and only seen it demonstrated when we bought the van over a year ago I wasn't that concerned.

Now we pick up our friend tomorrow after he has had an overnight flight and as there are no showers at Edinburgh airport he will appreciate a quick shower so we thought we'd better check up on the "fault".

Gas tap on - yep
Water on - yep
Boiler full - yep
Water dump valve closed - yep
External cover off - yep

Turn on heater switch, one two three four etc - RED LIGHT!
Good newS, there is electric. Bad news the red light means a fault.

Check the book (again did we miss something?) and it says the red light means a problem with the gas supply and to try again every 5 mins or so as it may be air in the supply pipe if the boiler hasn't been used for a while.

Tried several times and still a red light. Grrrrrrrr

Okay, start again.... I asked is there a gas isolation valve anywhere else? A quick check showed there wasn't - well it was an idea....... back to the actual boiler and Martin turned the valve off and and back on - and realised it didn't feel "right". Plastic cover off the valve to find it was worn and the square "hole" was actually round and when it was turned it wasn't turning the gas on! Ta-da!!!! a pair of rubber nosed pliers on the valve nut and the gas is on and the water heater goes great :)

It was niggle rather than a major issue but I am pleased it's okay and not an expensive repair. Now we can offer the facilities to shower rather than just a strip wash. :)

We will probably be able to sort or replace the plastic "knob" when we have more time. It looks like it has been forced to turn the past the stop at some point which has distorted the plastic.

That is the third repair we've done this week (refit soffit board, repair domestic fridge and now the van DHW) so hope that is our share :)

We also fixed our friend's fridge door and did two repairs to her trailer :) :)

EDIT: Oh also replaced a battery in one of the tyrepal sensors and reset the control unit.

I do hope you're going to Bill's Fix It meet next weekend!!! :)

'fraid not....... also just found that we have a leak from our house hot water tank. Nothing obvious is leaking / weeping and nothing we can do at the moment. Will drain off what we can and turn water off before we leave tomorrow then when we get back will have to pull it all out, lift the floor (and probably the sub-floor) to let it all dry out and replace what needs to be replaced. Probably an insurance claim :( The HWT is in the utility room on the ground floor so it could have been a lot worse.
