    Troll (Internet)

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    Jump to: navigation, search
This article is about internet slang. For other uses, see Troll (disambiguation).
In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtrl/, /ˈtrɒl/) [HI]is a person who delights in sowing discord on the Internet by trying to start arguments and upset people.[/HI][1]. They may do this by posting deliberately inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[4]

Shuggy I am saying this very nicely as nobody else wants discord on this forum, but your constant attacks may soon see you barred from posting here.. do you want to waste your subscription and lose access to our community?

One mans troll is another man's favourite poster, who is anyone to decide on a particular line of posting. My favourite posts are from members who bring something interesting and possibly at times, bit off topic.

Jim has gone to a lot of trouble to give an insight to a post by hovering your mouse over the heading. If the content is not to your liking or in your opinion a bit offensive then don't bother with it. Simples.......What we need is a few more interesting trolls.

    I don't get this
Some people place comments I don't like and I know for a fact I have put up a few people like
    So what
Don't react just ignore or say your piece end of story life's too short for long winded arguments
If your wrong apologise if your right battle on its called debate
If some ones being a pillock shoot them with down intelligent comments and prove your point

It appears that some don't want "debate" though. We have known threads where if someone else doesn't agree with your point of view they will go out of their way to try to convince you that "their" point of view is the correct and only one:RollEyes: We can't and won't always agree on certain things, but at least we should all respect one and others opinions.

Once you stop respecting other people's opinions, or to even consider that others might have a different point of view, then you've closed your mind to debate.

there is a huge difference between a reasoned debate, where a matter is discussed showing differing opinions and ridiculing somebody for daring to ask a question. It all boils down to mutual respect or a lack of which causes ill feeling. somebody habitually picking fights on a forum is generally referred to as a Troll.

Particularly on this sort of community type forum you will find both good trolls that are winding somebody up and sharing in the humour and bad trolls who enjoy upsetting people. A big difference I am sure most will agree :thumb:

dont forget the rules.... disagree with the content of a post but dont attack the poster

You hit the nail right on the head Big 1. I love a good natured wind up as much as anyone and have watched some of the (deluded) rugby ones on here with a big laugh. That is a huge difference to plain insults on here and any other forum. Ribbing each other is a great part of human nature and what makes forums such fun.

Please let's keep "Fun" living up to its name. Thanks.
