hi folks Sandie and I are off in Bertha the beast in a month we plan about 18 days away. Can anybody tell me of a good brochure or website with details of campsites/parking in the above areas?

not long enough
more and more Scottish towns are allowing and even encouraging parking in their town centres

a couple of ideas here, this is just Borders area, I know that Pitlochry has a similar scheme

it will not be easy to park 'off site' with a 'beast' (not sure exactly how big you are) but there will some places, then there are sites as well as advised above

Yorkshire is not so easy, you will be stuck with sites and potentially very narrow roads if you try to get too deeply into the hills and valleys

Have fun (y)

There was a TV documentary last week about Inveraray Castle, the home of the Dukes of Argyll and the seat of the Clan Campbell.
I would pay a visit if I were going to Scotland looks impressive.

It's brilliant well worth a look. We booked a meal in the loch fyne oyster shack beside the loch and they let us overnight in the car park in return(y)

I've been to Inverary a few years ago, car/hotel trip, it was lovely and the Castle too the walk uphill to the lookout at the top above the castle was worth it too.

Scotland is just wonderful and you can just about haul up anywhere and will be most welcomed. Very refreshing! But, If your on Facebook, you could do a lot worse than join Scottish Motorhome Wildcampers. It's a really friendly group and they have a great resource which is a map of all the best Wild Camping locations in Scotland. What about the midges? I am from Ayr but live in the Southeast. We are both really looking forward to our travels.
There are some midges around. Just spent the weekend in Troon and not one in sight. Was too windy.
They dont seem to like my blood, I rarely get bitten though mum can get covered in bites.

The %age of wine to blood tends to be the deciding factor on whether they bite or not. Draw your own conclusions.

Bitingly cold wind and hailstones this morning down here in Cornwall tend to put them off as well. Got bitten last week. Forgot to top up the Pinotage level.
The stroll on the beach at 06.00 this morning was not the best of ideas but the dug seemed to disagree!

The midge can be a real pain at times, usually worse in the evening when there may be little or no breeze. They don't tend to come out if it's windy. Wooded area's can be the worst.

The small midges can be very irritating...but not as deadly as the Monster Midge who should be avoided at all costs!
