Hi had a approved tow bar fitted for my Thule bike rack and later a toad went to connect electrics and Thule bike rack has 7 pins and tow bar has 12 pins having had a caravan I thought this was all standard .so do I have to change plug or can I buy an addapter:Eeek:

its actually 13 pins.

converter cables are OK, but the problem with a 13 pin socket is its an MOT testable item will fail the MOT if there is anything wrong with the wiring or socket....ie, any lights dont work or are wired incorrectly.
MOT testers have a dedicated test meter to check function.

7 pin sockets are MOT exempt

the better option, if you dont intend towing a caravan, is get the 13 pin socket converted to a 7 pin socket....no MOT worries then.

13 pin and 7 pin wiring diagrams and wire colour codes are readily available on the internet and it isnt a difficult job.
an auto electrician could do the job in half an hour..
