Any of you expert tourers give me some advise please.
Looking to take my wife & myself oh & Westie in May 2011 to somewhere maybe warmish for around 8/9 days starting from Devon to Europe.
Your idea's would be really appreciated. Its our anniversary.

With 8 or 9 days the first question I would ask is what crossing are you going to take.

From Exeter the quickest (and most expensive) would be from Plymouth this would give you the whole of the west coast of France in easy access.

If you are going to use Dover/Folkstone this would give you a wider choice but would reduce your time abroad by up to 2 days because of the travelling in the UK

Having your dog with you throws up problems. There are restrictions with some ferrry companies with regard to "if they will even allow the dog to travel" and "where the dog will be left for the duration of the trip". Thats if your going to Spain.

Your other alternative is Calais by the fastest route and mess around Normandy. There are some lovely spots there and hopefully the weather will be bright.

I'm not sure what the form is on camp site availability at this time of year. A lot will close for the winter, but more seasoned campers will know.

Got an idea now of what we will do, Tunnel early morning, then have a look around Brugges, another stop to have a look around Gent.
Will then travel on to a site in Valkenburg
    Code:

For a 3 day stay, looks OK.
Then go onto a site at Koblenz for 3 days right on the Rhine
    Code:

Will then drive straight back up to Ostende to see friends & overnight.
Hopefully weather will be warmish or dry middle of May
