    i bought a tracker from ebay for £35 that texts if the van is moved and can cut the engine by text too

    If you want one for your own peace of mind I guess it's fine. If you need one for insurance purposes forget it.

    just a phone sim card of choice, which so long as you text once a month, costs very little

    same thing can be done with an old mobile phone loads of apps out there to do it.

    as a plain tracker, of course it can. however to immobilise the van by text then not without rewiring it. simply set it to immobilise when the van is parked unattended and it will need a lorry to transport it, but still text if the van moves from its parking place, determined by gps and phone mast

    you can then track the van in real time on the internet
