Advice needed please. I have a Thetford N3000 fridge freezer series which has stopped working on 240v it has happened since I plugged in to a supply with reverse polarity in France. Code 8 comes up on the screen which means a 240v problem. Has anyone had this happen to them and was it a quick fix? It is still under warranty but I am in Spain at the moment. It works OK on gas.

Can't help with your present problem except to say that the fridge (along with every other 240v appliance) doesn't care which way live & neutral are connected so the reversed mains feed will not be the cause.

What age is your fridge? Mine was a year old and similar, called therford who suggested take off outside lower vent , disconnect mains plug wait five secs and then reconnect , ensuring electric mains to van is disconnected . Then reconnect mains and all worked .
After returned from holls saw main dealer who fitted a link "fix" and no problem since.
Hope helps.

This chart suggests you may have low 240v .. common on Spanish sites..
on one Spanish site I measured below 200v at peak times..

have you checked the voltage is present and correct ?

The Thetford web site says that the error code 8 is AC voltage 20% under the nominal 240 which I could imagine is possible on foreign hook up.

It says check the 5 amp glass fuse, in the back I guess.

Oops Jim was quicker!.

There seems to be a fuse issue on early models and a fix is available.

Broken Link Removed

Scroll right down for the board details.

@ScotJimland might cut and paste it for you I can't include the photos on iPad.

Is there a fault code showing on the control display ? ( code 8 would indicate a possible fuse problem on the fridge PCB) it is also possible that the 240v supply to the fridge is not present from the EHU . Have you checked the main fuse board and its circuit breakers.

Hi, resurrecting this as have similar problem.
N3000e fridge 2016 - ALL fuses checked and all okay
Error code 8 - works fine on gas but not on mains - no voltage drop has occurred.

7 years campers before that
going by whats said above i think your looking for a fuse in the fridge rather than the fuse boards as it says glass fuse i would expect its on a pcb somewhere

I have found the 5amp fuse and that’s fine.

Thank you for that. Looks like it could be the heater element. Others have said this as well in other threads on this site.
I have looked at the heating element replacements from leisureshopdirect.com who can supply them - they are listing 2 items - also looking at the breakdown diagram it also shows 2 - is that correct? - I thought they only had 1? - or is it that there are 2 manufacturers that offer the same part and you can choose which you want?
My model is: N3104

nhvm There are two , one heater element is for 12v operation and the other is for 230v operation (they are not the same)
Have you confirmed that 230v is getting to the fridge when on EHU ?

You can measure the resistance of the 240v element with a multimeter. With the meter set to the 2000 ohms range, note what the meter reads when the probes are not touching together, and when they are touching together. When an element fails, it usually goes to high resistance, or low resistance, so it will read like the probes are not touching, or are touching together. A good element will have a definite resistance, as shown in Nedge68's post, of 200 to 400 ohms.

Obviously make sure you unplug the EHU before testing the 240v circuits. To be sure of the result, you may have to disconnect at least one wire of the element before you take the reading.

Hi all I have the same problem now with my Thetford 3000 not working on electric can you tell me where I will find the glass fuse please. Thanks
Possibly the one on the right of this pic. The pcb is at the back of the lower fridge vent. The burnt 20 amp one is for the 12v high current feed. You need to remove the cover and cables to get at it. I'd check the 240v supply is OK before removing it.

That is the same one. You need to take the unit off. It's held on with a couple of torx head screws You can't see the pcb from there. It's a bit fiddly, Mark the cables as you take them off. You can see the back side of the pcb but you need to remove a couple of screws to see the other side where the fuses are mounted
