I like it here
I have my 70 200 f2.8 and getting superb action shots
Just got a very nice cormorant taking off and a speed boat jumping a big boats wake
We had two days rain at cochem but it's wonderful now

Glad the weather sorted it's self out and next time you go it will be a scorcher. (y) The only thing I don't like about the Rhine is all the trains and the lack of bridges to get across the other side, but cant say to much because we blew then up.
Great pictures Andy not to many action shots when we go, its a steady pace of life, and very relaxing.:LOL:

And there's us here in Norwich wishing it would cool down a bit, we had a mini digger and skip this week and all ready for concrete, ;) but it's too hot, so it will have to be a few day's in north Norfolk with a sea breeze. :ROFLMAO: Bob

We had a walk around the old town but happened across this on the edge being sold for someone privately at a bike shop. I had a long hard look then we continued on to the one hour boat trip all the while thinking about it.
I decided it was a bargain but more so if we could haggle so I set wifey upon them and they contacted the owner who was selling it for his wife.
Knocked him down to €370 from €399
which on Caxton just now was £301
This was close to a €1000 bike originally and apart from a couple of paint knocks it is like new , almost zero wear. :D

Stayed in Boppard a few years ago during a heatwave, sleeping with all the windows open and I don’t know which was louder, the trains or the nightingales :)

Took us a week to conclude throw the sat nav away and just follow the 49 and 416 otherwise you'll keep getting taken away from the river.
The Rhine Mosel camping at €35 for two nights includes electric waste and water but parked outside on pitches 1 to 10 so not bad. I expect the on site fees are much higher

Andy

Are you using the truck sat nav? If you change the vehicle type to car does it route along the river? Maybe the satnav won't route lorries the way you want to go.

just keep the sat nav off. its like when we tour abroad . either we follow rivers or the sea or sometimes keep a mountain range to one side .
in the desert of maroc you are never out of sight of the atlas mountains . just keep them on the left or right depends which way you are going .
but you have fun . it really is a fantastic journey your on .
done it a few times . its never boring .
plus lots of wild life .

John the sat nav just wants to take the quickest route. The Mosel snakes , if you only set a short distance it will follow the river but if you're destination is 20 miles it will take you to the motorway. The point is that it is a handicap not a help and best to forget it as you can't get lost on a river

Well, I've done the area biker style now. Apart from Monday 28th weather glorious. That Monday I rode through Cochem and could barely read the road signs. Biblical rain.

I've never done this area with a group of bikers, these happened to be nutters, all they were interested in was how fast they could get round bends, oblivious to the glory all around them. I did got up some roads you would not tackle with a MH and saw the Moselle from a great height. But I then broke away and did my own thing at a slower pace. It really is very pleasant riding the rivers at a sane speed and being able to park just about anywhere that took my fancy. Free bike parking at the Deutches Eck.

I was always annoyed, riding past know excellent wine and no room to carry any home.

So a bit of a confusing holiday.

Now at Polich as Mehring was heaving.
This is a nice quiet spot on three tiers with a vineyard and small marina.
Chose the top tier for a better view and further away from potential mossies
Metered electric as usual but found 2.3kw left by a previous camper thank you lol

Decided on Val du Jolly I think it's called ? tomorrow, a lake complex and aire just inside the French border en route to Lille.

Recommended by Jan Ellis Aka eldwin.

P.S. another sharing snippet
LPG or Autogas is cheaper in Germany than UK unlike France
Very widely available and often 70 cents or less

We made it here ok but what a journey
If you have a Garmin 465t sat nav then bin it or sell it. I used it because I had the poi loaded but as usual despite being set to truck it managed to take us on roads barely as wide as the van.
The options of shortest or fastest route are a joke!!! Is there a difference? Needs the ability to exclude minor roads.

Anyway it has rained constantly since lunch so everyone is indoors but 20 vans here and free I believe
A flot bleu with language selection on site.

Edit my location is
N 50.11969
E 4.13987

10 mile of single track not wide enough for more than a tractor and no passing places ? It's not a bin wagon route.
My garmin has lifetime updates but not fit for purpose from day one

£50 to the first muppet who wants to give it a go ?

So that makes it ok then NOT
Reversing is fine for a short distance but this sat nav should not put me on roads where it is necessary at all

never had or used a sat nav . driven all over uk and europe . and north/west africa .
honestly hardly know any truck drivers that use them .
we do go down some roads in the winter then say think we might have to reverse . a mate on the walkie talkie says well we did last year ,and the year before . and the year before . have fun smile and be happy .
if you think you cant reverse out then dont drive in there . thats the secret .
longest reverse was over a mile up the west coast of portugal . only did it twice . ha ha , i,m not joking .

Reversing is ok if there aren't other vehicles up your arse. The sat nav was taking short cuts and not using main road routes suitable and easily accessible. We were just lucky VERY that we got through without issues but it could have been very different

dont worry . very often i can be with other mates in trucks as well . imagine 4-5 trucks all having to reverse . the locals love it .
chuck the sat nav away .
if you come on a winter break with us we get into some real narrow places .
i,m sure you have seen some of my pics . off roading is good as well . you need a 7.5 ton truck . 4x4 ?
you must have spotted a few already in germany i,m sure .
