It is to a Yank , 2000lb as against UK ton 2240lbs,
The american short change us on everything , gallons= 4 litres or so, hundredweights 100lb , tons , everything so as to give the UK less than we thought we were getting. No wonder we felt cheated when the yanks came to town.

So if a short ton weighs less than a long ton that probably explains why my 5 foot 10 inch wife tells me she is considerably lighter than I am at 6 foot even though the scales say we both weigh 12 stone
