We stayed on the Caravan Club CL part of this site (previously recommended by Ksebruce) in between the Peterborough and Chester meets.
The CL (currently licensed for 5 vans at a time but big enough for about 8) is in adjacent to a larger field with 15 touring pitches (so non CC members could book there). The fields are at the rear of a residential park site.
There is a room with toilet, shower and washbasin but it serves all pitches so we used our own facilities - no hardship in that. Quiet and peaceful but also plenty of room for children to play away from vans/tents.
Large Asda plus pub and chippy half a mile away (we didn't try pub or chippy). Bus stop to Mansfield in Barringer Road near the site entrance, return bus drops off at the site gates. Fare to Mansfield is £1.40 each way for those without passes. Maun Valley country park is just down the road.
The only downside is that Mansfield seems to consist of hills, but that's not the site's fault
