Currently in Santa Luzia a stones throw from Tavira. It is known as the octopus capital by the locals, so after coming across a little restaurant and having a very good menu of the day on saturday we had a look on the main menu and did a little research on trip advisor.

Alcatruz is a traditional restaurant and one of their dishes that was recommended is their 'Polvo Suado' or sweaty octopus

We booked yesterday afternoon for the evening as the dish is cooked for 4 hours!

The Sweaty octopus was excellent. Really meaty and tender with lots of flavour for a plateful of tentacles, and it was a plate FULL with a whole one each! Cooked in a lot of oil (or octopus sweat?) with garlic and herbs, and potatoes boiled in the juice it is highly recommended if you are in the area.

The waitress would not let us have a starter, which was wise, so we finished with a fig and almond tart for me and an orange looking stringy one (forgotten the name) for Lynne.

The whole meal tasted even better when the bill for the food, a small jug of white wine, two glasses of port, an americano and an espresso came to €42.

not long enough
I like my seafood, but really not sure I could cope with all those legs on plate, a little too lifelike for me, especially at this time of day :)

But glad to see it doesn't come to the table quite as whole as I imagined when just reading your description (y)

Love octopus but I've never had the sweaty variety. The first time I cooked one myself it gave me such a shock when I lifted the lid. It had kind of risen up in the pan and was standing there looking at me.:unsure::unsure:

I also love octopus but I must have been eating the lazy type as I've never had a sweaty one!
