Normally, our annual Summer Trek of 8/10 weeks duration would have started by now but circumstances this summer have dictated otherwise. So, tomorrow lunchtime we kick off on the first of a series of Mini Summer Treks of about 2/3 weeks duration each, limited to Spain.
The "no plan" plan is to visit those parts of Western Spain so far unseen, by us, in the 10 years we have lived here, all those places where we have said " must go there one day".... Well, tomorrow is the day we make a start on that list.
Starting from our home in Malaya we proceed West to Sevilla and then point the van north in the direction of Badajoz, Caceres, Salamanca and ultimately we hope that time permits a visit to Santiago de Compostela. That will be the turn around point before heading back home and it would be nice to hear, from members, about stopovers, must see and must do stuff along our route.
WiFi permitting we will keep friends, and the forum generally, posted as to progress.

Best regards

Bryan & Anna (Co-Pilot)

If you are going all the way to Santiago then go a little further and stay overnight at the Cabo Finisterre. The air has no facilities but the view and if you are lucky the sunset will make the journey worthwhile.

Only problem is the weather forecast for the north is not clever at the moment. Damp.

Brian, don't miss Merida On your way to Caceres. It's got some terrific Roman and Moorish ruins. Plenty to see and do. Give our love to Anna

Yes, we were there about three years ago. We asked at the tourist info and they said Motorhomes could park overnight at a car park just a short walk from the main Roman ruins (theatre and amphitheatre). It's definitely worth a couple of days.
I'll see if I can find the coordinates.

First day run to Seville and a quick in and (rapid) out look at the aire by port "areadeserviciosautocaravanas"
and decided "not for us". Too far from anything and very industrial apart from being isolated. So, off to our normal "free parking" in the city on the banks of the Guadalquivir. Magic spot .........and free too!!

Had we known a fellow Glaswegian was on site, would have been happy to "Walk five hundred miles" just to say hello!

At Badajoz now, pitched up in the grounds of the Citadel and what a fabulous location it is..... Many thanks to Mike (makems) for the info which led us here. Explored part of this beautiful city already, well the part where the shops are, doing culture tomorrow!
Told by Info office that the local autyhortity have opened new aire on other side of river from Citadel, will investigate, and use, when we leave Friday.

Regards, Bryan

You might have came and said hello,we are staying on the Seville aire.

I said negative stuff about the aire in the port which was less than fair, given that we did not stay there....maybe you feel like telling us your opinion of the facilities etc.to even things up for others.

Spent an extra day at Badajoz, great stopover, so Mérida was only a flying visit unfortunately and we are now on the aire at Cáceres with just one other van.
Aire details in......... All the Aires of Spain and Portugal book.
