Or maybe lack of regular maintenance , perhaps? or even poor maintenance.
Cheers, Dave(y)

Well it's had two services and its MOT. And we only got her in October.
The condition of drive belts should be checked during a service for cracking and fraying. However, they wouldn't be checked if you just had a quick oil and filter change and wouldn't be looked at for the MOT.

As mentioned if your engine has a timing belt check from any receipts you might have when it was last replaced because failure can mean a new engine. :)

If timing belt has been done, check that they did new tensioners as well, my car didn't, belt was fine tensioners snapped, same result, engine rebuild required.

It's definitely the fan belt....have the bits to prove it. Plus if a new engine costs thousands we wouldn't bother cos Winnie only cost us £3500. And no, I haven't left a zero off!

With any van that has little or no service history change all belts. Should be done every 5 years or stated handbook mileage. Worst thing for any belt is being in one set position for months at a time.

Thanks all. Fan belt sorted. Winnie running better than ever now. No more problems and are now back home. In every other way she suits us fine, except that the lack of a vehicle for excursions meant we didn't see as much as we would have liked. Didn't help that our son pranged his car so was unable to give us the promised guided tours. Darn it. Sat Nav packed up too, but then I blame Steve for that one. He bought a cheap download. Very false economy as it turns out!

Yes,
My British van has been running like a dream since the good news.
Apparently a lot of European vans are trembling about the uncertainty causing multiple faults.
