Hi all! Just joined. Been motor homing with hubby since May 2015, and after retiring last December we took the plunge and spent several months in Europe. What a revelation! And what a fantastic time we had! We are going to do it all again in November this year, hoping to spend 6 months away, so we want to do it right. Can anyone help me find a reasonable travel insurance that fits the bill for at least 180 days, or do we need it? We are both in our 60s with high BP but generally healthy but there is always the element of having a medical condition to declare that bumps up the cost.
And what about breakdown cover too? What do others do?
Grateful for help! :blusher:

Hello and welcome to the fun it's well worth paying the subscription for all the help and advice you can get on the forum www.Insureandgo.co.uk do a good backpacker package if you use single trip you can tell them how many days you want and they will quote you get three levels of cover we have used them the last three winters not had to claim so can't vouch for how well they deal with claims.

Living the dream.
We have holiday insurance through my bank account, Lloyd platinum, and breakdown cover through vehicle insurance (£84.50).

Nationwide doesn't look bad but you need to keep 2.5k in your account and faff about with longer stay cover etc

We found Covered2Go the best after struggling to find cover for pre-existing medical conditions, they use a seperate company to screen the health issues but you don't have to take the cover. Worth a look even if you have no problems.

Thank you all for all your tips. I am currently ploughing through them all! EHIC only insure up to 122 days and we are going for 180 days I've got a £480 quote from Covered2go and i need to ring about existing conditions. I'm not with Nationwide but I think I'll make enquiries. Got plenty of time - only going November but at least I've got some options now!
Thank you all for your welcomes and time. Hope we meet you on the road sometime!:cartoon:

Can't help with your problem but welcome to the forum.
I use driverguardian for breakdown cover but my cover is only 120 days in EU (12 months in UK) costs £99.00.
I am 57 and relatively healthy (I hope) have always used my E111 abroad and, touch wood, it has always worked for me.
We speak a little Spanish so that helps with Dr's. Other Brits had to take an interpreter.

Nonetheless, I would always recommend private health insurance if you have the funds to pay it even though I don't use it myself. It gives you peace of mind and usually gets you a better service so the choice depends on your needs and your finances.
Have a nice trip..
