Took "IT" for a trot this morning, noticed the Speedo wasn't working , nor mileage counter.

What base vehicle do you have and what year is it? It could be a number of things (hopefully the cheap gearbox sensor and not the complete head unit as happened to us on a 2003 Peugeot )

I've a feeling that that's around the time they changed from cable to electronic. If it's a cable then it's likely that's the fault - remove instruments, check for drive cable & if it exists remove it from the speedo so you can see if it turns as the vehicle moves. If no drive cable I'd check the gearbox speed sensor.

That's just reminded me of a curious occurrence that took place when we first had our van. (Private sale). After the first few little jaunts to try it out we did our first real tour near the Forest of Dean. One of the days I noticed the speedo had stopped working. I made a note to get it looked at when back home. Being new to the van I wasn't going to be doing any speeding, especially on those country lanes, but I kept my speed down any way. A couple of days later I glanced down and noticed it was working again! Must be an intermittent fault, I thought, I'll get it looked at. Anyway as the days went on it continued to work - and has done ever since. That was in 2010! Strange! :wasntme:

I'd forgotten about it till I saw that.

Thank god,
I have avoided looking at this thread for two days nearly. I was half expecting a picture of a funster in very small swimwear. Luckily it is about a van.

Yup.. 2002 was the change over year from mechanical to electronic.
Knowing how MH chassis tend to be a year behind manufacture ( if you see what I mean ) there is a good chance it will just be a drive cable gone futt
About £16, a couple of skinned knuckles, a wee bit of swearing and its a done job

Could be a fuse, it happened to me in an 08 Burstner. kept replacing the fuse but after a few miles it kept blowing so gave up and travelled back from Spain with it not working. It was the wiring harness that was causing it to fuse, cost £3000 to repair.
