We are thinking about getting some very basic Spanish lessons whilst staying onsite this winter. After getting the basics we may do proper course.

Does anyone have any experience / advice about potential places to do this?

TIA

If you are on Facebook, check out local buy / sell sites there are often people offering the service. Or ask on there and someone will recommend.
Only time we did it was at the Marjal funster rally back in 2012. They provided some free lessons a few times a week..

I'm a newbie.
Don't know if it's still available, but I found "Teach Yourself Spanish" I very good book - I only studied to Lesson 11 and was very impressed!(y)

Michel Thomas is an OK starting point but a bit out of date in his use of the language. Also, his male student is so stupid that he drives me nuts after 10 minutes! Probably done deliberately as a teaching vehicle but so irritating to listen to someone who appears incapable of absorbing and retaining the most basic words and pronunciation.

I usually overwinter in Spain and have wondered whether as part of a socialising effort, I could use my Spanish to communicate on a non-formal and laid-back basis to others. Unfortunately, at the sites that we stayed there was'nt the "kindred-spirit" that I felt would have set the thing up in the first place.

Maybe next time. (In fairness, I should have thiught of this at the Funster meet that we attended in Manilva last year but did'nt. No excuse! I will next time, if there is a next time.)
Buena suerte!

At Totana we have people who want to practice their English in an inter-cambio situation. If you are staying for a reasonably long time at a site ask at the reception if they know of anyone wanting to do this. Its a good way of learning, especially pronunciation.

Thanks for (most) of the suggestions. Duolingo is great - I've recovered a lot of French with it and have started the Spanish. I think speaking it regularly in the country is key, so we'll follow up particularly on the suggestion about talking to people who want to practice English. Mutual benefit etc.
