We are planning on heading down to Spain between the French border and Barcelona for the last two weeks of August, Do I need to book in advance at that time of year as I can imagine it being busy? Still in my first year of motorhoming and still cant get the need to book everything out of my head. I'm quite happy to wing it with the sites or Aires on the way down.

Not sure.

We were in Las Dunas last summer and it was very busy but there were a few spare pitches. I think if you were going for a week you might need to move pitches during your stay.

Hi

I would probably book for that time of year....

Where are you staying? We usually stay at Bon Repos, it's chaos but lovely in a way, right on the sea front.

We were looking at Camping LasPalmeras which I think is just up from Las Dunas, I have made a reservation request but they need a 150 euro deposit to confirm reservation, they only accept bank transfer and my bank wants to charge me £25 for the transaction!

Ok thanks all, I have just booked Camping Las Palmeras fo 18th August. Spoke to my bank and they only charged £4 fee so alls good. I've been thinking of opening a euro account from Citibank for future use has anyone tried this?

Hi , we do the journey down to Spain via France almost every year, we've never booked and always got in OK, then we can drive as little or as far as we like before stopping. We never use Aires because of the kids/toddler.

When we decide to stop for the night we find the nearest campsites based on our current location using the ACSI DVD although if you plan to use a coastal site, then probably worth booking.

Enjoy:Smile:

So the Caxton Card is just a prepay card you load up before you travel? sounds good

Aires in Spain are very far & few between at the best of times - in the height of summer it's almost impossible to find any free camping, you will get moved on by the police.
We did this last July so first hand knowledge. the costas are very busy at that time of year.
