We often spend a ton of money on the first trip of the year down to Benidorm. We love the place.
This year I looked at the cost on Ryanair into Alicante. Cost for the two of us was £307. I took a look at Manchester to Madrid and we are both there and back for £30 per leg or £120 total.
So, booked a hotel on the outskirts of Madrid for the first night and a car hire. Then we have a week in Benidorm and all day to drive back to Madrid on the last day.
