We are travelling from Fort William to Oxford and am hoping somebody can recommend a suitable site near Jct 35 of M6 (Lancaster way...) for one night so we can break our journey.

We cannot change our travel plans but the night we need the stop over is Sat 23rd May - which until I started looking at sites is the bank holiday weekend so availabilty is a real issue (that will teach me to check in future....)

Can anybody help?

Thanks

There is a campsite at Tebay services near Shap on the M6 ....a little further up the M6 than you wanted but supposed to be a good stopover.
Oops just realised you are travelling South the campsite is on the northbound services

Try Old Hall caravan park, Capenwray very close to junction 35. It has been mentioned in the latest MMM mag in the article about Lancashire.

another option is Bay View at Bolton-la-Sands just a few miles south of junction 35 on the A6 and really easy to find.

not long enough
Tebay services allow cross over as it has the hotel and camp site

Personally unless you need electrics I wouldn't use the site there, I looked round it a couple of years back when I needed somewhere to work from, it is mostly used by long term contractors and isn't very pretty, disappointing no view at all, set in conifers

But Tebay south has a really nice parking area above the main car park, we regularly use it for an hour or so and would happily overnight on it, but there will be a charge, but probably much less than a camp site abd if only for a quick overnight very convenient for your journey

Tebay service area has just one best in country again, amazing farm shop (not cheap) good food area overlooking lake

Thanks - tried both, but because its a bank holiday weekend, they want a minimum number of nights (one at least 2 and the other at least 3)

For 1 night we'd use Brit Stops. You can usually find somewhere and they are great places to stay. All free to stop as long as you have a drink or bar meal but no EHU which shouldn't be a problem for 1 night. If you don't have the book there's still time to get one for the May bank holiday.

On and off for many years.
A bit further north than you are looking for:

Kirkandrews Moat, Longtown, Cumbria CA6 5PQ Phone:01228 577270

but a lovely site and very nice owners. I think you have to be C&CC members :)

Is there a website or list of Britstops?

You have to join and then you get a book of stop overs and a sticker that goes on the windscreen to prove you are a member :)

If you put motorhome stopovers UK into Google it does show free stopover places in the UK.

since 2007, 25 years tuggin before that.
Derby Arms @ Witherslack, just a few miles of J36, off the A590 towards Barrow. There's a big layby on a cul de sac. Far enough away from the road but near enough for the pub ( if you want food or drink).
54.239185. -2.85920

Or there's the Station Inn @ Oxenholme. Hundred yards from Oxenholme Station, Come off at J37 & follow the road for Kendal.

Sorry, missed you reply but as puddle duck says you buy the book. I think this year it was £27 but well worth it in my opinion. There are loads of places to stay all over the uk. Farm shops are good stopovers as you can stock up with fresh local produce, etc.
