We have an auto-trail Cheyenne left hand drive 2006 it has a large solar panel on the roof but we have no idea what it does and cant find anything about it in the book that came with it?

if its all connected properly you dont have to do anything.

when the sun shines it charges the battery....when the sun dont shine it does nowt.

there wont be any literature with it..there never is,...and it will be an add on extra, not factory fitted.

If you want to check that it is actually doing something, do you have a multimeter ??
If so, set to volts DC. Go out to van on a nice sunny day.
Put probes on the leisure battery and if it shows something in the. 13v range then its producing power..:thumb:
