I am looking into the possibility of fitting a solar panel myself. The one thing that is confusing me is the connecting of the charge regulator.

The regulator has connections for Panel, Battery and load. The first 2 are self explanatory, my question is:

Do I need to connect the van 12v electrics to the "load"? if so at what point should I connect it e.g. before/after habitation relays. or can I just leave the Load open terminals not connected

Thanks

Load terminlas can be left unused
you may want to wire them to a 12v cigarrett socket to charge phones torches, lap top etc etc
it only provides power to that circuit when batts are almost full, when batts drop low that circuit is dead untill batts are full again

If you have still to fit the panel itself, think about making it movable/hinged so that you can angle it to the sun to increase its efficiency.

i concure with Geo....can be left 'idle' or if the panel is in a dark locker you could fit a lamp to this to light the panel for inspection.
my panel has an on/off switch for this function.
