Sat as you do, in the sunshine and For no reason decide to look under my van.. (Dont ask)

Anyway, we have had an issue with damp ingress on the side wall by the dinette. Van has been to Autotrail factory for it to be "resolved" April 2013.
Second hab check in December 2013 still showed a higher than normal reading.

    What do I find today....

Bloody row of big screws hanging down !!!! Either never put in place when van built OR left loose when "repaired" at factory..

    Not happy...

That's bloody awful Tonka, anyone who has worked under your van should have spotted those, not exactly small screws are they !!
Would forward that pic to them and say you need an inspection on your return.
How many seconds to do that with a leccy screwdriver, laziness I reckon, they will probably tell you "OH they must have come loose on the bumpy roads sir".

You will be lucky if they even bother to reply.

As you may guess, I am now definitely not a fan of Auto Fail.
If they were the last manufacturer left I wouldn't buy one.

edit they left the screws out so that any water in there can run to the lowest point ie screws and drip out

I love em, look nice, practical layout for my needs etc.
BUT quality and build is certainly getting suspect....

Got my eye on a Carthago, Hymer or Burstner... Who knows once I get back to UK...

I don't think they are significant. The screws holding the timber in place you can't see as they are deeply countersunk or counter bored to be more exact. You can see the evenly spaced holes in the photo. The heads of the screws will be at the bottom of those.

I suspect those screws you can see sticking out were put there by a previous owner. Why? No idea but they don't look as if they are in very deep.

Left in after manufacture? Possibly used temporarily for some reason and someone forgot to take them out? Can't see how they alone would let damp in.

Let me expand because you need the whole story..

    New van in Jan 2012.
Dec 2012 - 1st hab check and high moisture readings along the offside wall plus rear heki leaking ... It will leave the burning kitchen walls for another story.
Jan 3rd 2013 - Autotrail factory for repair of Heki, side walls needed further and longer investigation.
April 2013 - 1 week at Autotrail workshop for offside repair...
Dec 2013 - 2nd Hab check, Still high readings on side wall above acceptable levels. Advised to recheck in 3 months, as we are away in Morocco and Spain that fits in for us..

So not a previous owners issue, the factory have had the van back and so maybe they like to leave 3" screws hanging out..
On the opposite side of the van the same type screw locations are all screwed in place...

Sitting back in the sun and awaiting the responce...

The british vans look good these days, good layouts and spec. But still crap workmanship.
    A real shame.
