Might sound a silly question, but what colour is the smoke?

    Not water vapour then.....

Possibly Piston Rings stuck allowing Oil blow-by the pistons.

Try some Fuel Cleaner.Wynns/stp...Remember the "old" Redex....Did it smoke prior to laying it up?

Might loosen up/clear after a good run.

Does it start ok or take some turning like the compressions a bit low?

Advice as above, add some fuel treatment, and give it a long run, but check the iol etc first.

get the injectors serviced, they prolly never have been and will prolly due replacement now,

no need for a diesel to smoke except a little puff of black when you floor the go pedal and it's chucking the accumilated soot out the exhaust, but leaving clouds of black smoke behind you aint nice for the person following you, and what you can see in your mirrors will be 5 times worse viewed from behind.

Black smoke is overfueling btw, dribbeling injectors, poor spray pattern etc,

blue is oil burning, OR poor combustion if it does it only on start up,

white is unburnt diesel... or water from a leaky head gasket,

Save your self a lot of money, don't go ahead with any expenditure until its been checked out by at least 2 preferably 3 garages. miss diagnosis is easy!

As a time served diesel fitter but now retired and out of date with modern engines let me tell you that it takes more diagnostic information than you have provided plus stabs in the dark are normally not worth the effort. but if the smoke has oily smell and a blueish colour its probably not your fuel system

    Good luck
    Doug...
