Seen this car on ebay so asked the braking system. He came back with the answer that as the car is under 750kgs it doesnt have to be braked. I have checked its weights and it is stated as 720kgs 'Empty'.
What do you all think - has anybody pulled on of these without brakes?
thanks
Don

As far as I am aware if it has brakes they must work when being towed. :thumb:

Its not the weight of the car its the gross weight.
And like has already been said if fitted must work

Smart tow car and A frame

We have a smart if you tow it with no brakes connected (not set correctly) you can feel it pushing if you brake hard.
Just so happens i is for sale in the classifieds as we are looking to buy a new one soon.

This is a bit to close for comfort, car 720 kg, 5 gall petrol 35 kg , A frame 20kg
equals illegal.
I looked on ebay and the frame looks like the braked type ( due to the spring)
with out the cable connections, hence I would guess about 20kg.

thats funny because my smart 03 model states on its weight plate 980kg and that is the weight that Vosa will use if pulled so it needs to be braked anyway.

but the law states that if brakes are fitted they have to work regardless of weight.
