What's a good anti-frost heater to use in the van to keep it just warm enough, say 5º or so. Mainly to avoid the truma boiler from dropping it's tank when we bring the van to the house the night before a winter excursion ?

I'd like to install the heater permanently inside the boiler cupboard and leave it there, just using it on those odd few occasions.

If it's only for that Why not use the truma itself set low

Typically when we pick up the camper it's super cold and the truma switch has already triggered hence I need a way of warming things up before I can get the Truma on.

Just put a clothes peg inbetween it to get started :xThumb: just don't forget to take it off again:xgrin:
You can't do that on some for the newer ones as the drop valve isn't accessible (probably because people used to put a peg on and then the boiler froze!) and even if it has one you can do it to, if it's already dropped it might not be so easy to get it back in place so you can put a peg on anyway.

Agree with tonyidle, a small tube heater would be the best bet, they come in various sizes/power levels so just have a shuftie for a greenhouse heater and you should find a few to pick from.

Yep those tube heaters look perfect. And yes correct a peg wouldn't work on our truma boiler safety switch, nothing for it to hold on to as such.

Thanks

AFAIK, the truma can be run irrespective of whether there is water in it or not...ive been running mine in heat only, empty of water.

Well some times the most obvious solutions are starring us in the face. Had always assumed that no water meant not possible to run the heater as well as hot water. Will look into this some more.

What model Truma are you using in this way ?

2015 Combi 6E with CP Plus controller.
drained down after last trip as weather getting colder (dont normally leave heating on in the van) but as we are away later today, plugged in and put heater on 'heat only'....all fine.

Reading the spec on the 6E it does specifically state that you can do this, i.e. run heating without water in.

Not sure this is a feature of the other Truma combi heater models, need to check on mine but was sure it had to be filled.

I did think about installing a 'Pig Heater' (Tube heater) under the bed where the Truma is, but how does that help keeping the pipes from freezing in, say the bathroom. which isn't under the bed:xdoh: and is about 6 ft away.
