Hi all,

I've got a bit of a damp patch:Blush: no not me,
one corner of a skylight has a bit of a damp area, not dripping, I'm sure its not condensation. checked on the roof, the hinge on that corner has sealant (mastic?) that its sitting on but no other sealant around the edge like the rest of the light. What make sealant should I use to bead around the hinge?

Cheers

We had a similar experience in November of last year.

We were in Cornwall during a foul gale and suddenly water dripped all over my feet.
Checked it our and discovered water in the Seitz rooflight.

When we got to Poole we asked Essanjay to have a look and they discovered a very small hole in the outer skin which was causing an ingress of water. They used a standard sealant, Sikaflex I think, and we had no more trouble and lived in the camper from November to March this year and in some terrible weather, especially during the run up to Christmas.

Essanjay said that this can happen on occasions, a small airpocket develops during manufacture and gradually the gel coat gets worn away thereby exposing the hole. It was about the size of the nib of a Bic biro.

So the leak may not always be where you expect it to be.

Thanks both for the replies,

sikaflex is an option, can you get just a sealant, I don't need adhesive.

estcres, it is a PVC so no holes in the gel coat .... just the big one cut out
for the skylight.

I think I've got some locktite marine sealant in the garage somewhere,
used to to seal around bolts on my kayak, not sure if it works on metal though.

Cheers

sikaflex is an all in one product. basicly an outdoor product that does two or three things, lots of different variations but the one in screwfix will do what you need. It will seal but also adhere. Unfortunately you cvant have one witjhout the other. Just clean off your fingers quicker than silicone, as it will leave a stain for a lot longer (far exceeds silicone in all respects).
