Since 2011 (tugger for 20 before that)
We are looking to visit the Palace of Versailles (amongst other places) in a couple of weeks time and are looking for a decent site/aires/passion site in the area. All the Aires book doesn't list one near.
Can anyone give me any possibilities please?

OPENING TIMES: ALL YEAR

GPS COORDS: N48.86833 E02.23389

DIRECTIONS: The site is EAST of the SEINE between the River & BOIS DE BOULOGNE (next to PONT DE SURESNES). Take BVD. PERIPHERIQUE & exit @ PORTE MAILLET -- follow site signs.

SITE DESCRIPTION: This large site is the nearest site to Paris city centre, being located next to the Seine and only 15mins drive from the Champs-Elysees (shuttle bus available in season). The pitches are of a reasonable size, mainly marked out with hedge boundaries, varying degrees of shade. The services range from 10A + water + drainage + TV connection, to simple (i.e. nothing). Pitches are of a reasonable standard but cleanliness varies due to a very high usage, especially in high season. Motorhome service point.

The facilities on site include a restaurant, pizzeria/takeaway, bar and playground. There is an information/excursion booking service at Reception, with a shuttle bus running from the site to the nearest metro-station. Reservation is compulsory during the high season and recommended at other times.

REVIEW:

1) This is an extremely busy and large site, but if you want to visit Paris it's probably the best site as far as location goes. The pitches were a bit on the small side with not much privacy between them and the services depend on how much you want to pay. Toilets and showers were not the best I've seen -- some blocks were quite dated, others fairly modern -- cleaning seemed a bit hit and miss. This site suffers a bit from road noise. The restaurant was average, but the pizzeria was ok and the shop was well stocked. In reception, the staff were quite helpful -- English spoken, plenty of tourist info and you can book trips and tickets for attractions. More shops/supermarkets are 5 mins away over the Pont-de-Suresnes. This is a very good location for visiting Paris; you just have to put up with the inconveniences of a large impersonal campsite.

2) A good site for visiting Paris but quite busy, even out of season. Site is open 20 hours per day (closed 0200 -- 0600) & 365 days per year so is quite convenient if you arrive late & is quite secure with automatic barriers at entrance. There is a shop on site (open every day) as well as a couple of eating places. Pitches are OK but possibly tight for larger vehicles & have either 4A or 10A connections. Quite easy to get into central Paris -- simply take a bus (outside site or use the shuttle bus if running) to Porte Maillot Metro station which is on Line 1 & it takes you straight into the heart of the city.

3). An update for readers. The toilet blocks have now been renovated & improved, although the farthest block from reception still requires the tiling to be repaired in the shower areas, and a general 'lick of paint' internally. None of the fresh water stations were working apart from the ones near the reception area, which can be one hell of a walk!! Our pitch was alongside the main road that can get quite noisy during rush hour, but it's tolerable. The reception are helpful and speak quite a few languages, and they need to because during my visit i saw vehicles from 19 different countries!! The restaurant food is good, at holiday prices, as is the Site Supermarket. There is a local supermarket about 15 mins walk from the site. The yellow bus stops outside the entrance and will take you to Porte Maillot metro station for 2 Euros (and 2 Euros to return later). From there you can walk up to the RER station and visit the whole of the country!! So..... a very convenient site for visiting Paris, doesn't have all the mod cons that some might desire, but it serves a purpose. Simon Lown

Picnic tables are provided and it is about 300m West of the town centre. The Artisanal borne with drainage channel & two taps is easy to access.

REVIEW
1) I have stayed here before & it is always clean & quiet although there is some noise from passing heavy lorries. It is well looked after, next to a pretty lake & close to the shops. Church bells can be annoying but they stop at 2200 hours. There is actually room for about a dozen motorhomes here.

2) "The aire is reserved exclusively for camping-cars, equipped with an artisanal service point, entirely free & next to a small lake. Limited spaces so arrive early!" CAMPING-CAR MAGAZINE

There is a fairly expensive but high standard site we used for a visit to Versailles. Walkable to the palace (couple of miles), but buses nearby.

It's called huttopia. I can't get the url to paste on this damned iPad, but it's easily found.

A few years ago we parked at a car park on Avenue de Sceaux which leads directly to the Palace and is a comfortable 5 min walk. The Office de Tourisme said we could park overnight and we stayed 2 nights. Parking is free from 6pm to 8am and was 10 Euros from 8am to 6 pm. A bargain for parking so close to the palace.
It isn't perfect - it slopes and there is a bus station at the top end so can be a bit noisy until about 10pm.
When visiting the palace DO NOT buy your tickets at the Palace. The queues can be horrendous. Go to the Office de Tourisme on Av de Paris (only about 400m from the palace) where there probably won't be a queue at all.
You can park on Av de Paris while you nip into the Tourisme to check that things haven't changed since 2010.
The Palace is closed on Monday but the gardens are open for free. This is good as you can easily spend a day just wandering the grounds.
Allow yourself at least two days to do the inside of the palace(s) as there are a few. And get into the main palace as early as you can so you avoid the bus tour crowd (the guides can be very rude and have sharp elbows) The bus tours don't all do the Trianon and Petit Trianon so they tend to be a bit quieter.

since a nipper but only got back into it seriously recently when we inherited my mum's van
If you are visiting Versailles camping Huttopia is very close and just a bus ride away (2€ if memory serves me right). There is a railway station close by so if you stop outside of Versailles it would be easy to travel in on the train and get to the palace. The actual campsite is 'ok' but we would not stay there again we would go for the travel in option :)

if visiting Versailles we use Les Mortemets which you will find on google earth.
there is a small campsite there with pas d'electricite but showers and toilets. literally a 5 minute walk to the gardens.
never m/h there but camped twice. access road is to the bus depot so a bit noisey at 6am and 11pm
