Without doubt, the Pont Aven provides a much better travelling experience. The restaurant includes an excellent buffet, and the piano bar is very pleasant and relaxing. However, we have used both the Pont Aven and the Cap Finistere, and felt there was no difference as far as 'sickness' was concerned. We now use the Cap Finistere because of the pet-friendly cabins - the sacrifices we make for our dog !

Many thanks for all the advice, Q. to Makems, what tablets do you use?
and when you say stay overnight on the dockside, is this in a que for the ferry, or way before entrance to ferry port?

We buy Stugeron tablest which are very effective. Take them as recommended x hours prior to departure and every 4 hours (i think) - just follow directions on the packet.
BF ferries to Spain from Portsmouth are invariably in the morning so arrive late and park next to the fence before the check in lanes.
On return from Bilbao arrive at checkin before 5:30pm amd they will direct you to the correct lane in which to park. I havent departed from Santander for the last couple of years, so Im not sure what the situation is now. Someone else will be alomg soon to advise I am sure.

We traveled from Portsmouth to Santander Friday just gone and we both took two Sturgeon tablets two hours before we sailed (whilst we were awaiting loading) we were fine, only thing is ,it was one of the smoothest crossings I have known .

Kwells contain Hyoscine (scopolamine) which is said to be more effective than Stugeron(cinnarizine) although different things suit different people.

Many thanks for all the advice, our travel friends (have there own van) decided they would prefer poole to cherbourg (4.5hrs)
so thats what we are going for, will try bands and tablets, and at the worst will be sick for a lot less time than the santander route,
ok we will now drive 1200 miles to mojaca, but thats what we bought the van for, shame france will be nearly closed down for the winter as we drive through.

If you are bad with seasickness, nothing beats Nautamine.

We make the crossing over Biscay at least 10 times a year. It is not usually that bad. We crossed to Spain in December and there was a bit of a swell. As we had a Commodore cabin on Cap Finistere, it moved a tad as they are up-front over the Bow.

Returned 7th January to the UK. Again Cap Finistere with a Commodore cabin. It was a very smooth crossing. When I checked the shipping forecast, most of the shipping areas were red, not Biscay as is very often the case.

When it is rough, its rough.

I think Cap Finistere (our preferred vessel) is to be laid up from 11 February to 28 March 2017 for maintenance.

So you may be going on Pont Aven or Baie de seine.

If you want all singing all dancing, Pont Aven.

If you go with BDS, then paying extra for a commodore cabin which are very comfortable and towards the Stern. Will give you an enjoyable and if rough, more comfortable crossing. The Bar on BDS is up front over the Bow, whereas on Cap Finistere it is at the Stern.

If you cannot afford or don't wish to go to the expensive of a commodore cabin on BDS, you can relax in the rear quiet lounge of the ship.

We flew back to javea Friday and its horrible weather.
