just done my first full tank to full tank mpg test got I got 23.86mpg over 352 miles mostly (85%) motorway 60+ sometines more when overtaking, meduim weight on board,

is trhis good bad or about average?

I noticed the fuel warning light came on at 350 miles so presumibly thats

80lts max
-67.2lts used (352 miles)
12.8lts left

so enought for a 50 mileish lookout for fuel maxium after the light comes on (approx) befor I start to panic

what do you get?

I drive my Scout very carefully..anticipate traffic movements so there is a minimum of braking, keep below 60mph, avoid fierce acceleration, and fully loaded (including full tank of water) I get 450 miles to the tank !!!!:thumb:

so what mpg is that?

80lts say 17 galls usable so thats around 26.5mpg?

do you find a lot of differance in road behaviour with just 25% water on board rather than full?

MPG sounds about right..
No difference in road behaviour..:thumb:

Above 60 mph. the fuel gauge turns into a fuel flow meter !!!

the increase in fuel consumption at 50mph and 70mph can be dramatic.
maybe as much as 30% less mpg at 70mph depending on wind direction, terrain etc.
unless you're in a rush, late, have more cash than sense, then 60mph is a comfortable cruising speed on the motorways.
just a little faster than the HGV's so you aint stuck in the 'snoozing' lane.

my older (01) 2.8 ducato based kontiki returned around 25mpg average over a (almost)thousand mile scotland trip and i was towing the corsa as well.:thumb:

I would say your about right. As John says the difference in speed is incredible.

I often get about 22mpg out of my 2.8 but have had it as little as 18mpg when running for the ferry and pxxed off about having to come home.:Angry:

I found that I get better consumption out of my Renault Master if I can keep the speed 60 to 65 (especially on motorways), if I drive around 55 the quickshift keeps changing down to 5th gear. My range on a full tank is around 600 miles :thumb: 100 litre tank & around 27 mpg.
In my Frankia A class 2.8 JTD I averaged just under 25 mpg, that was over about 12000 miles, the van was plated at 4000 kg & was probably over that weight most of the time. Looking at the mpg per filling it varied between 24 to 29 but this could be the variation in when the pump cuts off, I take more notice of what my average is over time as being a bit more accurate.

Like Kon-Tiki I have a Ford 2.2 130 low profile on motorways I find I get better fuel consumption if I stay at 60/65 mph on cruise control after quite a bit of exprimenting.

my next trip is Saumur & back I'll be using motorway and tolls as I'm time limeted (again), but that should give me a better overall average...

2008 Autorail Cheynne 660 2.3 litre, 3000 miles on clock now doing 27 mpg @ 55 mph, towing it drops down to 24 mpg, hopefully it will improve when the engine loosens up.:thumb:
