Oh no Skye, you done it now ! I`ll be getting sacked,
Seriously, I looked at travel from Plockton to Mallaig and it seems there is a ferry from Armadale to Mallaig so that means going onto Skye via the bridge ? Is that viable alternative rather than going inland driving the longer route ? seems to make sense if I can buy a one way ticket

yes you can, nice drive onto Skye, you get a half decent view of the Cullins, then turn left down a scenic drive to the ferry for Mallaig, which is itself well worth a walk round, some nice seafood cafes

the journey isn't much further either (y)

bridge is free and ferries relatively dirt cheap since reduced this year

Once you go there....you won't ever want to leave...just saying. It might be best to retire now then...

until you get to Harris for the first time :) beats Skye x 10 (y)

Hey don't be giving me any more ideas, though nothing is ruled on or out, yes it's the Rhum & Eigg Ferry we can see, Eddie tells me. Nice sunny morning here today. On Skye the Talisker Whisky Distillery is well worth a return visit so Eddie tells me :).

Eigg is worth a day trip on the ferry ,there are two caves on the island one called the massacre cave where the MacLeod's massacred most of the islands population and the cathedral cave where even today people use it for a church , about 25 years ago eigg was sold and bought by a German guy who became very unpopular very quickly ,this led to a group being called "the friends of eigg" this group raised money and along with a grant from the government and the EU ,this allowed the islanders to buy their island .

I used to sail there will some mates ,we were part of the fund raising movement

There are not that many roads in the highlands, most are used by delivery vans and lorries daily so are just fine. If a road isn't passable there will be a sign at the turning.
Just go and enjoy !

Just a little update before we leave here tomorrow, had a good day chilling done a bit of washing some walking and a lot of laughing (now I know that I have a strange sense of humour) but we were walking through the croft and Joyce has a large shed where she over winter's some cows and their calfs, well Eddie decides to lean on the gate and talk to the cows, next thing the gate collapses and Eddie is lying flat on the floor looking up at me, with cow shit all around, took me half a hour to stop laughing it was like slow motion, so funny.
Anyway Joyce has put her new sign up with telephone number so new details and a few pictures from today round and about. Can't believe all the different types of birds we have seen, so many different ones.

Hi. @Figaro just a thought I would check the weather as today it is very windy not sure if the Ferry is running and it is windy on ty Beach. We are at Malaig waiting to see if the 4 O'clock Ferry is running, so all in the hands of the weather gods.

Carol thanks for lovely pictures and funny stories!! Poor Eddie I bet you couldn't stop laughing!! Love the washing line! We've got one and they are very useful! We leave it out with a tea towel on when we go out for the day so no one pinches our spot!
Thanks for photo of site number have written it down! For future reference!

Excuse my ignorance, having never taken this route (yet), but why is it better to go North to South?
Sorry for late response had some IT issues this weekend.

From North you see Skye and Ardnamurchan all in front of you and when you reach the interesting Bealach na Ba Pass your going downhill round the hairpin bends. We met a cycling club doing their "Scottish Alps" experience and off about 30 guys only 2 were not walking. I'm sure some others will feel differently however I think it was great advice. Hope you get a chance to do it yourself (y)

Hi @Carol travelled today to Clachtoll from falls of shin. Very windy here too and snow flurries. Managed a nice walk on the beach at Achmelvich between showers.
Had planned three nights here but not so sure in view of the weather, see what forecast is later.
Hope you get your ferry crossing

Sitting waiting for the 4 O'clock Ferry, very very windy but bright, just bought our tickets, really impressed with the price £15 for the van and both of us.Now fingers crossed that it doesn't get cancelled.
Eddie likes to live dangerously we needed to park in lines, so to oblige he got us nearly in the sea. Great free Car Park though and toilets so no complaints.

When we woke the snow had paid a visit. This morning we are on the way to Talisker. Found out on Skye you can get sunburn and frostbite in the same day. Loving it though so pretty sunshine or snow.

Had a nice couple of days pootling around its so pretty here with the snow but not overly cold, we have layered up and been quite cosy. Last night we wild camped just before Grenbrittle on a clearing in the forest then first thing this morning we went to the Fairy Pools Car Park (it gets very busy and if you leave it later with a Motorhome you won't Park) any way we got our climbing boots water proof gear walking poles and made our way up to the very top, so many people only go part way, it was spectacular I think the snow made it even better. We are now on a camp site all cosy with electric heater and a nice joint of ham cooking, it's very snowy now so quite happy that we did the walk this morning. and can have a tot of whiskey to keep us warm. Some photos
