Year 3 of ownership !
After finding out how much potch getting a dog passport for the dog is ,we have decided on Scotland

We will be travelling last 2 weeks of August this year ( 2008 ).
We will be wildcamping on our journey from Wales up to there along the way.

We would like to visit Edingurugh and Loch Ness and stay on any recommended sites in that area, if you lot know of any :winky:

We are not drinkers but would like busy areas ( dog friendly of course ) to visit. Our motorhome is 22ft long, coachbuilt if that helps.

Any sugestions welcome. We may do a couple of days wildcamping, and a couple on sites. Many thanks in advance :thumb:

The dogs a one off big fee then just a booster every two years.

It's well worth having the ability to travel to Europe when you want.

There's a useful campsite at Lothian Bridge... handy for the £2.50 a day bus into Edinburgh... carriage of dogs is at the driver's discretion!

...and there's a Tesco at the next roundabout into E'br

We stayed at the CC site about 18 months ago and are going there again last week.

We would have tried Lothian Bridge this time (after Graham's recommendation) but it appears to be shut at this time of year.

Hi - another site to consider for a base near Edinburgh is - Linwater Caravan Park East Calder West Lothian. Lovely friendly owner Jean - good dog walk from site (a few stiles) Near flight path but not that bad. Linwater is a bit off the beaten track so could be a bit of a walk for a bus. Quite a few park & rides around Edinburgh hopefully motorhome friendly. While we were there we went to see the Falkirk Wheel well worth a visit.

If you are going on up to the Highlands we visited Loch Ness when we were staying at Dingwall CCC

We loved Scotland and have barely scratched the surface will definitely be going again :thumb:

If you do go to Linwater don't forget to sample their bacon (unless you're a veggie:winky:) from their own reared pigs.

I made a query to the authorities in Edinburgh and received this reply, which seems very helpful. Hope this is of assistance to you.

Dear Sir

We welcome the use of motor homes with our P&R Sites, and there are no height or width restrictions that would impinge on the dimensions of your vehicle (6.3m x 3m).

At current there are two free P&R sites, which are both based to the west of the city, One at Ingliston and the other at Hermiston.

Lothian Buses provide a frequent service into the city centre from both sites, which costs as little as £1 for an adult, and there is no charge for parking.

However, it is advised that it maybe best to use the Hermiston site, as it is less busy and there are no overnight restrictions. Furthermore, I would not encourage that you stay over more than one night this distracts business from the nearby Ratho caravan park.

If you follow the link below it will provide you with some more info on Edinburgh's P&R, but I trust this helps to answer your queries, however if you wish to discuss any of the above further please do not hesitate to contact me on the email address.

Try a few days around Dumfries and Galloway area theres a camp site on the A711 out of Dumfries ,through Beeswing ,look for the caravan site about a mile further west than the village, its called Beeswing Caravan park. (has a dog Field set aside, also has rescued donkeys,) there is plenty of opertunities to wild camp around this area just keep your eyes peeled when touring, and dont turn up too early to spend the night,(remember tired Drivers can overnight in Laybys just dont set up camp, leave corner steadies up etc,) There are on going roadworks about three mile west of Dumfries on the A75, and again on the A75 after Dunragit and before Stranraer, the A712 near Newton Stewart, along this road is the wild goat /Deer Park, Murrays Monument /waterfall , Clatteringshaw Loch/dam and wild camping abound ,if you keep you eyes opened ,further a field S/W from there is Burrowhead Caravan Park which is near the Isle of Whithorn, the caravan park is right on the rugged coast. this is a really nice scenic area to visit (No I dont work for the tourist board ) Many overlook this area when traveling to Scotland, we used to when we were going further north , but once found we never went anywhere else for many years, Now we live here and do travel north , just for a change now and then.:thumb:
